What we need is a "Michigan Man".

I assume you'd be talking about Brady Hoke here. I'd be open to it. One of the best recruiters in college football, but Michigan really tried to destroy him so they could let him go with "cause." Interestingly, his brother Jon was co=defensive coordinator for Spurrier at SC this past year.

No, complete joke about needing to hire someone with Iowa ties. Michigan seems to only want to hire guys with ties to their program, so it was a coincidence when I saw Hoke's name after posting. That said, I think Hoke would be great.

Like I said, Hoke has recruiting chops and was coach of the year in three different leagues for his turnaround jobs, but it would just have that KU-hires-out-of-work-Charlie-Weis feel to it. Still, it would probably be the biggest name you could get.

I understand why everybody dislikes the spread, but I think if we got a guy like Kendal Briles (though I'm not 100% convinced he's ready to be a HC) we would bring in the type of players to make it work even here at Iowa State.

To Rucker Haringey or anyone else who is promoting Gene Chizik, you obviously have never met him or you have an intense hate for ISU.

IMO we need someone who can develop talent. Hoke couldn't win in the Big 10 with 4 and 5 star recruits. How would he win here with 2 and 3 star guys?

I mentioned Hoke in another thread a couple months ago. I think realistic option and a good coach that could have learned from his firing from Michigan. My delusional pick is Mark Richt. Million to 1 chance. But when he gets let go from Georgia maybe he is looking for a job with limited expectations. Like I said delusional so don't rip me. But in the wisdom of Lloyd Christmas. "So You are telling me there is a chance."

Is anyone else tired of the "Iowa State ties" candidates already? It happens every time there is a coaching search.

Fact is Loney, Alford, Sage, and several others have no resume for a Power 5 job. They only get mentioned because of a previous stint with Iowa State.

We've sucked for 100 years. We don't have to have someone with ties to Iowa State IMO.

Also, stop the Iowa ties discussion. We tried that with McCarney.

He could have learned from his firing. But that's what we said with Mangino. We were all wrong about that.

One thing I really like about Hoke is that he's available immediately. Of course the coach of the year of three different conferences isn't so bad either. Look at the talent he left for Harbaugh.

Not sure I am in support of Hoke but he was trying to run a more traditional offense with spread guys. And Rich Rod couldn't win there either but could at WVU and Arizona. So maybe it is a Michigan problem?
