Surprised so many are closed minded in this thread.

We have a combined 8 wins in the last 3 years.....outside the box might be necessary for a hire.

Leipold could very well get Pollard run out of town.

Exactly, him or an option offense guy and I will seriously consider NOT renewing my season tickets.

My top three are Alford, Campbell or Frost in no particular order. I have someone who is extremely close to Alford that I am going to get info from as soon as she can get it.

FYI out of everyone I've talked with, by far the most controversial is Leipold. A few think he's worth the gamble but the vast majority feel he'd be a step back in many ways, though of course nobody knows the staff he could get.

Ultimately, there have been candidates express interest (and 2 interview) that would seem to be better proven entities at the right level in most fans eyes. If everything goes well, we'll have an announcement right after the conclusion of the regular season, at the latest.

what about Fritz

So according to the people who've followed Leipold, he's won by having a MUCH more talented roster in comparison to his opponents.

That's not going to happen at Iowa State.

Reasons Frost should be at or near top of the list:
- Former QB So...?
- Won national championship beating Peyton Manning So....?
- Familiar with Midwest/Ames This only helps if he has connections here. Does he?
- 3rd round NFL pick So....?
- Coached by Osborne, Bill Walsh, Parcells, Belichick, Gruden Plus
- Coached under Chip Kelly Plus
- OC for one of the most prolific offensive programs in the country Plus, but Helfrich is their coach so how much credit should he really get?
- Young, energetic guy wanting to prove himself Plus, but for an old guy we could say experienced with many connections. If it was his first Power 5 job we could also say wants to prove himself.

I wouldn't dislike this hire but I believe we have many better options ahead of him.

Pollard is a Wisconsin guy. Do we think he's seeing Bo Ryan in Leipold? Football is way different from basketball but you can't argue the results there. I'll support whoever gets hired, and hope for the best.

I highly doubt he would leave Navy, he has turned down better jobs in the past to stay. He does fit JP's religious requirement. I kid you not but he claims God tells him when to take timeouts and called certain plays, he said it in an interview.

he's very religious but he's mormon. Doesn't matter to me but interesting I guess.

He isn't likely as he currently makes $2 million a year and is at an easier job, but Bronco Mendenhall is a name that is intriguing. Like I said not likely, but at least gauge the interest.

If its true that Pollard has zero interest in Scott Frost then that just further solidifies his incompetence

Frost seems like the right mix of youth, iowa/midwest ties (but not ISU), offensive minded guy that would make him an obvious candidate. I think the added bonus with Frost is he's actually played at a high level in the modern era...I think that goes a long way in recruiting and the respect he can command from the players.

I'm still surprised how little the name Todd Monken has been mentioned. Is he just not interested in the job? He seems like he would check all of the boxes.

I don't want to pick "my guy" because I'm not in the interview room and am far less qualified to do so anyway, but he really does look like he would be a great fit out of the realistic-looking options.

Just tossing it out there, what about Jay Norvell? I know he does not have head coach experience, but if they want an offensive mind....

Hey Curved can you make a list of reasons why you won't pay me the $100 you owe me?

--- To wrap things up, here are the guys I have heard the most about (in order of the noise): Leipold, Fritz, Niumatalolo, Campbell, Alford and Stitt.

Niumatalolo is the most well-qualified out of that group and I don't think it's close.

Just want to make sure he's not the Andy Enfied of football.

But then again, ISU is not in a position to wait until candidates names become too big for Iowa St.

Fritz 2016 class is about as good as ISU right now. And that's Georgia Southern. Granted it's in Georgia but still. He looks to be getting kids from Georgia. CA, and Florida. My biggest concern with whoever JP hires is he just be a guy who can get talent to Ames. We can talk about X and Os, integrity, values, culture, game day coaching, etc..at the end of the day 90% of the time better talent wins games. Georgia Southern runs ball prob better than any team in country. They also have a top 30 defense nationally(at least statistically)

Campbell may be good but he is coaching at a place that is an established mid major power..something just rubs me wrong because we destroyed his team basically..with SR at QB. That game wasn't close. I do think Campbell is prob a more sure recruiter than most of these other guys based on what has been written about him.

.As for Frost..I think he could end up being a great HC. The timing is bad IMO. JP won't hire an Asst this time around. This program is in no position to take a gamble on a guy that hasn't yet proven he can win as a HC. Just my opinion. Everyone is a gamble..it's just assistants are more so.

If we can get Navy coach that would be a splash hire IMO. Dude is a great coach.

Leipold? Pretty big risk. Dude has been biggest winner prob. Buffalo has been very competitive in 5 of 6 losses. They lost their entire Oline coming into year and only returned 2 players on D..ouch. However their D hasn't been that bad. Just looked a few things up on Buffalo this year. Not sure what to think of this cat.

Idk. Just thinking out loud here.

If Liepold is even interviewed Pollard should be fired immediately.
