Can't stand the hate for Pollard. People praised him for everything Rhoads and Fred.

Fred leaves for more than double what he was making here to head to a dream job in the NBA.

Rhoads falls apart and can't coach anymore.

Obviously the AD is the reason we're awful.

Do we have a back up AD that's just sitting on a bench somewhere, he'd obviously be the cure for all of our woes.

Seriously good post. No matter what people think of Pollards hires, without a scandal, this guy isn't going anywhere. He's done more fore ISU than anyone before him.

Pollard would make a decent assistant AD. Someone who could handle fundraising. But he obviously is not competent at coaching hires.

Pollard will be here so long as the AD is in the black and fundraising keeps growing. When those things decline is when he will be in trouble. It's all about $$

Let's keep Rhoads too. Biggest wins in school history.

Apparently he has not changed the culture as much as he had hoped. IF this hire fails, JP should be gone.

Nope, if his next fb hire doesn't work he will be gone. And those do have a correlation.

In general, it is rare for an AD to hire 3 major coaches but Chizik left because of he got a better job, McD was rescued by Creighton and Fred went to pro, so in fairness, JP only had to fire one coach that he hired. Also ISU is uniqu. If we are USC or Texas, he would have been gone before CPR but JP has done a lot too for ISU. We'll se how things turn out. If The new coach leaves because he gets a better offer from bigger program, then JP should be commended but I can see the heat if the hires are not successful. Whether he'll be gone or not we don't know

Seriously, how old are you?

I've been a Cyclone fan for over 40 years. Pollard gets a few years yet before his number is up at ISU. I suppose we could always give BVD a call again though.

I'm not a huge fan of the guy, but other than having football teams that look like every other football team ISU has ever had, he's been an amazing AD.

Have there been many ADs that have survived having to fire 3 football coaches?

Honest question, cause I'm definitely not an qualified AD evaluator.

First of all JP didn't fire Chizek, he left ISU for Auburn.
Second, JP didn't hire McCarney. Any Cyclone fan at that KU game knew Mac was gone as the program was on freefall.

The Rhoads hire didn't work out, but the ISU FB is in great shape except on the field. We have solid teams in MBB, WBB and Volleyball. Most of the other programs are also competative for having one of the lowest budgets in the Big12.

Did you even read the question? No one is talking about right now, JFC.

You are the type of fan JP has spent a decade trying to change.
He has had one good hire, probably due to luck more than a keen ability to identify good coaches. At some point enough poor hires will slow down or halt this natural growth due to demographics and TV money (not really JP). JP's best attribute is he cared about ISU and was not doing things just to get his next job. That only goes so far.

He has been an awesome AD for money and facilities coaching hires have not been good. Minus Dreamy. And even that was blind luck.

Understood. When I said fire 3 coaches, I am talking about McCarney, Rhoads, and whoever he hires next.

Here's the thing with Pollard. I don't necessarily think it would be horrendous for us if he left for another job. With that said there is no way we should think about firing him.

The reason I say that is Pollard has been great for us, but I don't know that he is the one that can lead us to the next level for some of the reasons people have brought up.

LOL, OK.

As long as his department is making money and expanding facilities, he's golden here, weather you like it, I like it or no one likes it. If he's making money and things are growing, he isn't going anywhere. This has absolutely nothing to do with my fandom, I'm telling you how it is. This next coaching hire could fail on the field, but as long as it's a success in donations and attendance, he isn't going anywhere. This isn't a win/loss thing like coaching. Plain and simple, ISU success monetarily is the best it's ever been under Pollard. On the books, it looks like he takes the teams to the orange bowl every year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying things couldn't be better, but unless there is a serious downturn in money that comes in, JP is going nowhere.
