More minutes for Hallice?

That is probably a personal problem then. Thomas has played quite well this year. Improvement on defense, great defensive rebounding rate, and low turnover rate.

While I agree that Cooke has been playing great, both need and deserve playing time for the future betterment of the team.

Still don't understand all of the Thomas disdain from CF. Too high of expectations? Unfulfilled expectations of the "Mayor" reincarnate? Thomas isn't lighting the world on fire, but he has shown he can play. He just needs some playing time to get in rhythm and the confidence from his coach.

By expectations you mean the highest ranked recruit under the Hoiberg reign then yes. Looking at how all the other players have developed in this time period then looking at him has he really come that far? IMO Cooke is better at less than 100% than he is right now. He doesn't have the rebounding of Thomas and that is something that gives Thomas minutes right now. We'll have to see how that translates once the competition ramps up. I'm not saying I don't want him on the court. I do and think he has something to offer the team but this level of production is what I expected late in his freshmen year not his Junior.

I'll ask you one question. If he misses a game how much does it decrease our chances of winning that game or affecting the outcome? Especially when Burton gets back.

The rebounding part you mention is actually understated. He's second on the team in defensive rebounding rate ("what % of missed shots do you grab?") at 17.6% to McKay's 23.4% (though Niang is not far behind at 17.4%), which is huge when either big has to sit. Burton has never rebounded higher than 10.8% (not much higher than Morris or Cooke's current rate) in his career, so we don't know for certain if he can fill that role. Maybe ISU doesn't lose if Thomas has to sit, but I can almost guarantee there will be a thread made titled "Rebounding" if he does.

As mentioned above, I'd like to see him play PG when Monte' is out. I would like Naz to not play PG.

Naz is a warrior and isn't 100%, I totally recognize that.

Hallice has been great so far this year, and I can see a bright future for him as a Cyclone. I'm definitely a fan.

I think CSP has done a great job managing his minutes and getting him in the game when needed the most. His defense has been fantastic, and I think some of it is rubbing off on Thomas because he's stepped up his defense this year, too. I really like our lineup defensively when Hallice and Monte are in at the same time. They really pressure the other teams' guards out high, which has resulted in quite a few steals and run-outs.

In about his first minute the other night, Thomas had a steal, rebound, and assist. None of that matters for some if he doesn't hit a half dozen threes.

He's getting better, but Hallice still defends with his hands a lot. He's really quick though, and gets in front of driving guards better than Naz, and even Monte at this point. He shoots really well, too. I like how he's the leader of the B squad, and takes over.

Thomas is much improved this year, shots just aren't falling again. Does anyone miss closer than Thomas? He really stepped up the defense, and isn't a step behind constantly this year. Rebounding, just wow.

I prefer him on the court over Thomas. He seems to hit open shot at a much higher rate and play better defense. I've seen him and Monte combine for a few steals and transition buckets.

I don't care what the stats are every time Thomas is on the court I find myself yelling at him.
Thomas has played solid this year and easily is our most improved defender. Hes also turned into a great rebounder. Not sure why some people cant get over that matt thomas hate

Hallice has impressed early in the year but I'd hold of on forcing more minutes and altering the rotation of a undefeated #4 ranked team. His play has definetly proven that worthy of more minutes and I am good with seeing him on the floor more but it isn't like any of the starters has played poorly enough to demand less minutes either. Let's remember HC is coming off the bench with fresh legs going against either the other teams backups/tired legs thus he's going to have an advantage in those situations. Cooke also knows he will be playing limited minuts allowing him to go 100% for short bursts, attack defensively and sprint the floor for 15-20 minutes he may have to conserve energy if playing more. We have no idea how he'd hold up playing more minutes after his hip injury, and added stress could lead to issues.
I am a huge Hallice fan and expect him to start the next two years from the day he committed but, his role as sparkplug periter defener and 3 point sniper off the bench this year is perfect to give the team a shot in the arm during a lull this year. In the end this is a good problem to have (hopefully revisited when Burton is eligible).

I wonder if Abdul likes that nickname. It's like Gary Dolphin passed it along to Prohm.. Whitey and Woody are a couple other doozies..contrived nicknames

I wonder if Zul liked her nickname "Zooley." I remember Peter Venkman calling her this after she refused to let him talk to Dana.

Edit: oh, and I'd love to see Hallice play more minutes. He's been great. I wonder if he's at a "minute limit" because he's coming back from surgery?

Matt is still more off on his shooting than Hallice. You can see that. Matt has everything else going for himself. Matt is our fourth inside player. Maybe Matt and Naz need to drive and kick the ball more than just shoot from the perimeter. It will be interesting on role changes when Deonte gets on the court.

One thing that is interesting is Georges, McKat, and Abdul are in great physical shape and can play extended minutes.

IMO his shot is a little too flat. Believe it or not there is an optimal arc and when I played they had cameras that would tell you if your shot had too much or too little. I just think that his ball doesn't see enough of the hole and he kind of line drives it so it doesn't give enough error for soft touch to take effect. I'm not the bball expert though and I assume they know more that I.

This is correct. Matt's shot is a bit too flat(barely). That's why he has many shots rattle in and out. Changing the arc of your shot is VERY difficult if you've done it for years.

Maybe he should bank it in.

I'm envisioning a flowchart:

Start
Decision: Is this CF?
..No - What are you doing posting here?
....End
..Yes - Decision Is this a BB thread?
....Yes - Flame away at Thomas.
......End
....No - Can you drag Thomas into the discussion?
