if Rhoads would have gotten this commitment, you people would be killing him.

Bet Georgia Southern is real upset they missed out.

Of course a new coach coming from the MAC and taking over in late November should be expected to be in on Class of '16 guys with high-major offers

Oh wait! He is

What do you mean by "you people"!?

Yeah, if Rhoads had recruited this kid it would have been a tepid reaction. But then again, Matt Campbell hasn't lost 26 games in three seasons either.
It's a new program and people are excited. Get over it and enjoy the honeymoon.

Probably because CPR never seemed like he got kids he wanted, rather he got kids he could get. He was routinely piecing together classes at signing day, sometimes after. To this point, CMC is either taking any kid he can get or has mastered identifying the type of players he wants and getting them to sign when the come to Ames, I think we're betting on the latter. Iowa's recruiting is a perfect example of my point, they don't have great recruiting classes but always fill their schollies early. That is about scouting and selling your program. For all the love CPR got for loving ISU, he sure couldn't convince recruits to love ISU.

And?

Rhoads had proven we should not get optimistic about his recruiting and development leading to success, regardless of offers/stars. That is why he was fired. His failures have little merit on Campbell's ability or skill in building good teams from lower ranked recruiting classes.

BTW, if Georgia Southern wants them, you should too.

Agreed, besides, we're comparing the guys CMC has landed a few weeks into the job vs the guys a coach is getting 7 years in.

That last sentence is complete BS. Complete BS. Rhoads rarely lost a good recruit. Once they committed they stayed committed even when our fan base ran them into the ground....like tribune. And Rhoads had highly rated recruits. You can look that up too.

Guessing all the posters who like this recruit were the ones bashing tribune.

I am excited to see what Campbell can do too. That doesn't mean I am going to change the criteria for evaluating recruits for him which so many of you have done.

I have never cared as much about stars as the rest of you. So the one of the things I will say that I like about Campbell's recruiting so far is that he is doing what Rhoads did late. The other is different.

1. Taking Jucos
2. Recruiting more quarterbacks than the previous staff did

It does seem as if CMC's recruits at least have wide-spread interest from other programs. Might just be my perception as I'm thrilled with the change.

These are B12 caliber players. If you can't see that, your either butthurt about CPR or a troll. Get them in the football facility for a few years and we will be winning again.

Not every recruit is going to be highly saught after. It's all about identifying guys with high ceilings and developing them. The previous staff struggled with that. Hopefully this staff is better at it.
Agree 100%. We need to be able to identify talent in under recruited kids and then develop that talent. This staff seems to have the energy needed to recruit to ISU and in time, we will see how well they have evaluated these recruits.

Hope that in the future we are recruiting HS lineman who we can have for five years in the program. At this point, I assume the staff has identified their areas of need and are recruiting accordingly.

Just remember J.J. Watt started as a 2* guy

So did tons of other guys that never panned out. I'm not saying it's bad to take two stars but you just never really know. For every JJ Watt there are lot of guys that never produce. Hopefully Campbell and crew are good at identifying diamond the rough type guys though!
