Why should he? If there is talent in the mid-west and the players know him and trust him and want to play for him then get those kids. He should absolutely go where he and the rest of the staff can get the biggest bang for their buck and that would seem to be where they have historically recruited.

Not sure why you quoted me?

Pretty obvious that CMC is focusing on recruiting while he can. Since I believe the dead period starts tomorrow, Im sure he will shift his focus.

(quoted for no reason)

If Heacock is indeed coming along with CMC after coaching interim in Toledo's bowl game and we get our OC from Ohio we are going to have QUITE the pipeline there. Toledo had plenty of athletes on their team as do multiple MAC teams. I think Campbell & Co. could persuade most Ohio kids that aren't Ohio State talent or offered by OSU to come to the big stage and a Big 12 program in Iowa State when going up against Kent St, Toledo, Ohio, etc.

wonder if this tweet is in reference to CW's tweet about OC interviews being today. The "commitment to lead greatness" makes me wonder

Tweeted similar "leader" things this morning about the commits, so hard to tell.

The shifting focus part of your post?
You misread it. He was saying he will shift focus to coaching staff after the dead period starts and he can't recruit. Nothing geography related at all.

If if you want to skip speculation and making stuff up, then might as well shut this place down. That's 99% of message board material, and I may be being conservative.

Probably Scott Isphording...connections to Toledo. The other guy is a Solich man thru and thru.

If this is true then he looks like a guy worth waiting for. If its not the guy I will be upset, looks like a good choiceon paper.

Scott Isphording begins his second tour of duty in Athens and his first as the Bobcats’ Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks coach in 2014.In Isphording’s first season working with the Bobcat quarterbacks, both Derrius Vick and JD Sprague found success through the air and on the ground. The duo combined for 11 passing touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns. (Not afraid to use a two Qb system, and had success with it.)

Last year’s offense totaled 4,443 yards of offense which ranks fifth all-time in program history. Vick and Sprague threw for 2,474 yards for this season, which is sixth all-time in program history.
Isphording returns to Ohio University after he spent four years at the University of Toledo, beginning as the quarterbacks coach from 2010-11. In 2012, he added the roles of passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator to his list of responsibilities.
During his four-year stint with the Rockets, Isphording helped guide Toledo to 24 wins, three bowl games, the 2011 Military Bowl title and a 2011 Mid-American Conference West Co-Championship title. In his two seasons as the program’s recruiting coordinator, he helped the Rockets earn the MAC’s top recruiting class in both 2012 and 2013, according to Rivals.com and Scout.com. Scout.com also selected Isphording as the MAC Recruiter of the Year.
Isphording joined the Rockets’ staff in 2010 after spending 2009 as the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at Ohio University. Isphording helped guide Ohio to a 9-5 record, a MAC East Division Championship and a berth in the Motor City Bowl.
Isphording coached at Eastern Michigan from 2004-08, and was the offensive coordinator in his final two seasons there. In 2008, he led the Eagles to a school-record 5,010 total yards and topped the league in red-zone efficiency, red-zone touchdown efficiency and time of possession. Isphording mentored EMU quarterback Andy Schmitt, who set NCAA single-game records in 2008 with 76 pass attempts without an interception vs. Temple and 58 pass completions in a 56-52 win over CMU.

If the rumor is correct then again we get a man with a lot of good experience on paper, faced a lot of good opponents and has been successful. I would be very pleased if he was the choice.

In his first year at Youngstown State, Heacock served as defensive backs coach as the Penguins finished 12–3 and won the Division I-AA national championship.
During the next five seasons (1992–1996) he was promoted and served as the defensive coordinator.
Youngstown State advanced to the I-AA title game for four consecutive years, winning in 1991 overMarshall, losing to Marshall in 1992, rebounding with a victory over Marshall 1993, and beating Boise State in 1994.
Youngstown State finished 3–8 in 1995 and 8–3 in 1996, bringing the Penguins' record to 61–19–2 during Heacock's six-year stint as an assistant.
Heacock left YSU for a period of three years to serve as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Indiana University. He returned to Youngstown State in 2000 as the defensive coordinator. His defense was ranked 15th in the nation in scoring allowed and the Penguins finished 9–3.In 2013, Heacock left Kent State to take the Safeties Coach position at Purdue, following Darrell Hazell.[SUP][1][/SUP]
In 2014, Heacock returned to the MAC when he was named the defensive coordinator for Toledo.[SUP][2][/SUP]

Sorry I should have qualified that this is my slightly informed opinion (that it is known by the recruits and that they have their guys). Only inside knowledge I have is someone who works with the Staff and the AD but isn't on the football staff told me what he heard. He didn't say the names just where they were from ("hearing that the new DC will be his guy at Toledo and the new OC the OC at Ohio") . The rest was pure speculation on my part (that the recruits know or that it was a done deal). I had also seen it elsewhere since (Alex reported hearing these two names as well and that at least the OC was known by CMC) so for me just confirmed what I heard. Always possible that it is just a rumor based on speculation.

Isphording and Heacock make sense. They have a relationship with Matt Campbell and have had success and have experience.

Toledo players didn't want him to get the HC job. Sounded like he was old school and didn't bond with players. Do not want Heacock.

What I read was that Jason Candle was more popular with players.

So the players hated Heacock and the AD at Toledo then names Heacock the Interim Head Coach?

Nick Piotrowicz, who is the Beat Writer for The Blade in Toledo, cited 2 sources and said on Twitter that Toledo Players want nothing to do with Jon Heacock as HC.

I trust Matt Campbell on this one. Campbell knows more than anyone. If that is who he wants, then I say okay.

Sounds like what you want from a DC, not someone who coddles them and makes them weak.
