Re: Long Out Rest of Season

My thought:

He must think he can get a medical waiver and play next year. A kid with that much heart wouldn't want to just sit out the rest of the season if he didn't think he had a chance at coming back next year....

Wish him the best of course...

He didn't redshirt so his odds are pretty good and he didn't play more than 30% of this year. It's about as slam dunk as it gets.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

To qualify for a medical redshirt, a basketball player must sustain an “incapacitating injury or illness.” The injury or illness does not have to be related to basketball, but must take place after the first day of classes in the athlete’s senior year of high school. To gain a medical redshirt for a specific season, the athlete’s illness or injury must occur before the first game of the second half of the team’s schedule. If the team plays an odd number of games, the exact midseason contest is considered part of the second half. For example, if a basketball team plays 25 games, the injury or illness must occur before the start of the team’s 13th game. Games played in postseason tournaments, such as a conference tournament or the NCAA or NIT tournaments, count among the team’s total games played.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

We're going to have to give Ashton more PT

Which may not be a bad thing.

Sucks for ISU and Naz especially. I hope the NCAA has a heart and gives him the medical redshirt if he wants it, but ISU's history in such matters is not very good.

Others have to step up.

Needs to be asked:

Would sitting him until conference play made any difference?

I really hope this wasn't the last time we see Naz in a Cyclone jersey. The NCAA needs to do the right thing here. Hopefully the team can rally behind this. Depth isn't our strength.

Huge loss. One more injury, arrest or foul trouble night and nobody will be able to fill in.

Agreed, but nine games in seems kind of risky to pass up contributing to a possible final four team. Hopefully the school has already had some feedback from the NCAA on this. Would hate for his career to be done.

Well, ****.

I doubt he'll get the medical redshirt either.

This really, really sucks.

For all of the people complaining about the previous 9 games, now is the time to panic.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Mitrou-Long is one tough guy. He played through the pain before the surgery last year and tried to play through the pain this year. I trust that this is the smart decision for his long-term health. Wish him the best.

Yeah, if he could do it, he would. Time for the rest of the guys to circle the wagons and have someone step up.

He goes to Iowa State, I'm sure the medical redshirt will sail right through.

We are Iowa State, no way the NCAA lets him play next year. God damnit. Another screw job coming. Get your nut cups ready, cause they have their steel toed boots on.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

IF Naz gets medical hardship waiver it could keep Monte around especially if Matt continues to play lights out along with Malou coming in.
