True, but all of our big guys will be young and who knows what they will be able to contribute. My guess is we will have very guard heavy lineups next year.

Yeah but I'd rather have Naz in the big 12 then in the first 9 games. Plus it probably would have gave more minutes to Carter and Ashton.
Pretty big gamble for the entire season IMO if this was the case. Which is more important - a couple extra wins during the nonconference season, or being full strength for the conference season/conference tournament/ncaa tournament grind? I think the answer is pretty obvious.
Think he played too much for a medical redshirt?
What if he knew he was going to go for the medical redshirt and just decided to tough it out a few games until Burton got back? Or maybe he wanted to give it a try knowing he may not be able to do it so he should try while he could still call it quits and get the medical redshirt? We really don't know, it's all speculation
I'd rather have the scholly open to be honest and get that transfer big.I'd rather have Naz next year to be completely honest. That's assuming Matt can continue his play and Burton will be solid for us
No he ended up playing less than 30% of the games and I don't see any way he won't get a medical redshirt. I know the NCAA is the NCAA but this is pretty cut and dry
I'd rather have the scholly open to be honest and get that transfer big.
I think part was some denial about what level he needed to be at to be productive as well as how long it would take.
I'd rather have a great run this year and sign a grad transfer for next yearI'd rather have Naz next year to be completely honest. That's assuming Matt can continue his play and Burton will be solid for us
Albeit not official I'm sure the staff and others in the administration knew what # of games to cap at to keep a redshirt as an option. Gamble? Yes, just not a very big gamble.

We already have 6 guards now with Naz it's 7.Serious?? You'd rather have a big than Naz back? Hoping I read that wrong.
It all makes sense that this happened now. Naz, Prohm, and the doctors had to have discussed this. The doctors probably said that Naz wouldn't make his hips worse by playing on them, so Naz and Prohm decided to give it ago, because he could go 9 games and still get a medical redshirt.
After the last game, he was at the medical redshirt decision point, and - like we've all seen - Naz just isn't Naz so far this year, so he made the call to hang it up and come back next year.
There was really no downside to him playing the first 9 games, especially with the team lacking Burton. Naz is a true team player.
Yes we can but wouldn't you want to go 8 deep instead of 7? If we don't get a grad transfer then sign a HS recruit.Who is saying we still can't have a great run? This is the one position we actually could afford to lose someone.
Also who knows if we'd even get a grad transfer?
We already have 6 guards now with Naz it's 7.
Yeah the way he's playing so far this year he'd be crazy not to leave. Couldn't tell ya.At this point you're probably better off assuming Monte is gone (and no this doesn't need to turn into a Monte leaving or staying debate). That leaves you with Matt and Cooke as proven players and you have to assume Jackson is going to be solid for us. We have depth at guard next year but I think you're underestimating what Naz would provide from being the face of the team next year.
Think about it, who is the leader of the team next year if Naz isn't here?
