People will wait in a line..to get in the line in this scenario. The university isn't going to staff officers to disperse people from waiting in line. I think what will come out of this is assigned seating based on the # of mens and womens games you go to. Obviously seniors who have gone to all mens and womens games will get the best seats. It keeps people from waiting in line in the elements, no rush to get the best seats when the doors open, and encourages people to go to the womens games. Drawback is you probably won't be next to the people who you want to sit with unless you go to the same amount of games. It isn't perfect but I wouldn't be surprised to see ISU switch to this.

Merit is probably the best way, but I also think no different than lottery you will end up having boring people get in the first row. Just because you are senior and been to a ton of games, doesn't mean you are the best fan to be in the front row.

I have thought for years, that ISU would be smart to put together a supporters group like the American Outlaws for US Soccer. And then you would have chant and song leaders that essentially police the group to ensure everyone is enthusiastic. The atmosphere in Hilton is so much better since the end of the lottery that I know that shouldn't be enacted again.

Also as far as line forming, if you take away tents, heaters and sleeping bags, I don't think you would have too many lines that form before the day of the game. Sorry but it seems to me kids shouldn't be out in the weather that Iowa has experienced over the last week. It has to impact their studies.

First we ***** when the students don't show up. Now we ***** because they do. I am an old fart and I say let them camp. I love the spirit.

Don't think I've seen any post ********. People are suggesting different ideas IN THE EVENT that the university says "no more tenting". Given the current liability, it wouldn't surprise me if the AD made a change.

How long before there is a big movement to stop kids from tenting outside the stadium?

WE NEED MORE TENT CONTROL. ITS SO EASY TO BUY A TENT THESE DAYS, ANYONE CAN DO IT. TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS TO TENTS AND USE THEM UNLAWFULLY. THE ANSWER IS MORE BACKGROUND CHECKS ON TENT OWNERS. IF WE CAN CONTROL TENTS, LESS OF THESE TRAGEDIES WILL HAPPEN.

Yes, yes, yes. Hopefully, they pay attention to schools that manage it well . . . and not just make some knee-jerk reaction policies.

Forget Duke's K-ville. That is a whole different thing.

I wonder how they handle the regular 48 hour prior walk-up lines. For instance, do students line up somewhere so they can make a dash to be first in the 48 hour prior line?

That's a heck of a system. I like how the no heaters is almost an afterthought at the end. Although, maybe that shows it's just one of the more obvious rules there. We at least need to do that much here.

Well, it's also North Carolina and not Iowa. I'm not saying it's the tropics but we are talking average and minimum low temps that are about 20 degrees warmer than what these Iowa State kids have dealt with for their tent games. Hell of a lot easier to just ban heaters for them.

I know a few places where they do the point system and all that happens is people show up, swipe, and leave. Especially the Womens and Olympic sports.

As someone who went to a ton of games and even did front row for every FB, MBB, and WBB game freshman year, I hated the need to camp for a game. There is a ton of drama up there in those lines and the usual doubling of groups a few hours before tip off.

Must give tons of credit to the students for last Monday's win. It was so nice to have them back and dominating the environment.

Just drove by Hilton. There are tents all the way around to the Ticket Office on the SW corner! Crazy kids. Must like to play with fire.

The players obviously feed off the fans. Georges and Monte both have been on the record and they feed off the magic. I still truly believe we would have beat Baylor if the game was while school is in session. Hilton against Baylor was almost as quiet as CHA against #1 Michigan State..almost.

That is exactly what would happen. People would just camp out at the MWL fields if they had to or the better option would be to have a friend with a van just drive up and drop everyone off.

I've got nothing to add to this conversation but your avatar makes me giggle every time I see it.

You've probably thought about this a lot more than most of us. What would you recommend to control the line-cutting?

Tents don't kill people, people do.

Weren’t these guys in a makeshift pavilion tent with tarps added or something? Real camping tents have flame retardant added.

Gotta register the group in some way and a certain percentage have to be there at all times (random checks by the Athletic Department) or they go to the back of the line. Or Iowans and Minnesotans need to stop being so passive aggressive and call people out on it and shame them.

I love the enthusiasm, but why not limit the lining up to 48 or 72 before the game. Anyone "camped" out before that time will be removed.

You mean, act like you are from Ohio! Seems to be working for our new football coaches!
