Had to edit because I missed putting saying I'm not better. There are a lot of people that can't handle social media very well and Jameel may be one of them. He is obviously an emotional person so I just think there is more to lose than win with that.
It's nothing about being a genius or not, just being smart enough to know when to follow Georges (and others) lead and just stay hungry and lay off of it.

I agree with you. I just think it is hard to know how you would react when you aren't in his situation. Wide Right had a good article about it today. Jameel is a 23 year old man from Milwaukee who is in Ames where he cannot do anything without everyone knowing about it. I just think it is easy to say what you would do and it is easy to see from a distance that he is being stupid, but I don't think he's just deciding to mess up.

Fair and I respect that opinion. Every coach should probably show the infamous Zach McCabe tweet about being socially responsible.
Being him in a small town isn't easy I'm sure, I do think our fanbase, city, and University are probably some of the most caring people in all of collegiate sports. I hope he knows how much we all want him to succeed on and off the court.

McKay has been a problem longer than most know. It's going to be an issue the rest off the year unless a leopard magically changes his spots. They have to babysit him and it hasn't just been recent. It is what it is. It's up to him now.

We just need him to be the guy he was last year. Whether that was with or without babysitting. The leopard did change his spots from last year to this year. Time to change back.

I don't know the story about last year but this year it is just part of of the deal. He thinks he's better than he is and being a role player needs to be ingrained.

Plenty of athletes use social media very well. They build goodwill, increase the popularity and visibility of the program, even connect with recruits. Of course it can work against you too, as JM has shown.

But I would guess that 90% of our players are very good with social media, and use it in a manner that benefits ISU more than if they didn't use social media at all, IMO.

The 10% that have meltdowns on social media probably hurt themselves and the program whether they are on social media or not.

I've always said Fred can do whatever the hell he wants, but should acknowledge that he screwed over Iowa State in the process.

Get over it. It was less than ideal but I don't know how it could have ended in a smooth way.

JSF dude. Look at where we were when Fred came here, and look what we are complaining about now. If that is what you call "screwing over" ISU, then I hope we get a good screwing by CSP as well.

I make a thread about this a week ago and I'm a jerk, now everyone is posting about him. The underlying issue is McKay's attitude. He acts like he's the greatest thing in the world and only decides to play when he wants to. Too many times he has quit on defense (don't blame the knee anymore when it's obvious his attitude gets in the way) and becomes a liability. Sure, he's 23 and has a ton of growing up to do, but he's capable of being one of the best big men in the country. Hopefully Prohm suspending him for a game was a big enough wake-up call for McKay to start acting like a man instead of a kid. My hope is that he plays against Texas Tech with a completely new outlook and decides to try and hustle at all times. Burton proved on Saturday that he's more than capable of stepping up and being a starter so hopefully that helps Jameel with being a better teammate as well.

Please don't use the term "wake-up call" when talking about the ISU MBB team. They've made it abundantly clear the past few years that there is just no such thing.

honest question - is he off the team permanently, or was he only suspended for the one game? Or is it yet to be determined what will happen to him?

I think that's more of a lifetime achievement sort of thing.

Hallice for missing part of one practice had one game suspension, one game sitting listless on the bench, and only then did he get into a game later on. If Jameel gets to play this week, he did better than Hallice even though je missed a practice.
