Thought we had several pics last year showing 500 pound squat clubbers. Did those guys lose it?
Never said I was a strength and conditioning genius. Squats and leg press basically work the same muscles. If you worried about form start with a lower weight. Once you have good form you can start building up. It's not rocket science.

I think your wrongSomeone can correct me if I'm wrong here but I think a traditional squat does a lot more for your whole core than a leg press. I think legs press really isolates you legs while you need a lot of stability in a squat motion.

Fair enough. I guess I never feel my core being worked when I do squats

Basic difference between free weights and machines. Machines Isolate a muscle group, free weights train all the associated ancillary muscle groups due to the need to balance the weight and maintain form. Machines have their place if you need to isolate movements due to injury or if you need to work a very specific muscle group (Think Bodybuilders).
As a general rule you should be able to do more weight on the machine since you are removing all of the extra work associated with balance and form and also your own body weight. In the squat to leg press analogy the leg press is isolating the strongest muscle groups involved in the motion so you should be able to do more. Sometimes this can be helpful if seeking to build those specific muscles. Back in my twenties I was training to be a power lifter for about 4 years until injury de-railed me. My back Squat was 610 (I weighed around 260) and my leg press was over 1000 (That's what the machine at our gym went to).
The way I think of it is a leg press makes you better at doing the leg press but a squat makes you better at doing any squatting, lifting, extending type of motion even if it isn't exactly the same.
I have almost perfect form per my weights coachYou're doing it wrong, kid

I like this thread though typical CF.. lol. This cosch is by far the most important coach in our program. The SC coach is the bread and butter of any program..the guy is with these kids all year and has tremendous responsibility for developing these kids. Also..during the season it's the SC coach that is prepping these kids for games and their mentality. Not to bring that other school up bit over watched alotmof Iowa games and been to several since I live here and one thing I've noticed it's the other coaches are always checking with Doyle on sidelines for various reasons but Doyle is in the middle of group meetings for players during games etc..He's the key motivator. The guy we have now strikes me as a guy that highly motivating both on and off field. It's exactly what this program has been lacking IMO. Time will tell.
