This is much worse than those guys, they both had a lot of potential but neither showed they could be a big 12 player game in game out (Coe barely did that), each were projects that never really developed at ISU. Harris is one of the top 2 or 3 players on the defense and plays the position at which we have the shortest depth on the entire team.

Coe was a stud second half of the season. He was a huge blow.

Seeley is about the worst LB option I have seen suit up and take the field. Saying he is an adequate replacement for Harris is just ludicrous. Maybe the scheme didn't fit him, but there will be some guaranteed running downs in red zone D where there will be no better LB on ISUs team to hold the line. When ISU is giving up RZ TDs 80% of the time next year this will be one of the primary reasons.

This!

I have nothing against Seeley and he is probably a great Cyclone but he makes zero plays. Zero. And he is more than a step slow everywhere.

I'm sure he gets awarded some hop on tackles during games but he has no business on a big 12 field.

Mills came on last year when he hadn't shown much. Harvey's production has been completely overstated although he has ability.

This loss is a huge negative. It makes the coaching staffs lack of recruiting a juco linebacker an even bigger mistake. BTW I said that when the recruiting class was done.

It hurts because he was a run stopper and would have provided depth plus he would have been a big asset in short yardage situations but there's a reason he's going to Southern Miss

Loss of Harris certainly hurts. Interesting that RSo. Willie Harvey had beaten Harris out. Look for Brian Mills to step up. Hopeful that McMillen will step up as well as Marcel Spears. Also Reagan Northrup. Jahlas plays a lot on special teams. Wonder how he would be in spot duty. Seeley has played backup in the past, should be somewhat better the coming season.

He probably would have been 4th string LB even though they only have enough for 3 deep.

LOL at the "we only needed him for depth" crowd. Harvey is a great talent and has the potential to be a very special player here. With Harris gone, the other LB spot is a huge void to fill. Someone may step up and own this spot and be a great player for us (I hope they do), but this is a huge blow.

Pretty sure the 4-2-5 talk started as soon as Campbell hired on...

Personnel-wise we've been running a 4-2-5 since Rhoads got here with the exception of last year. Everyone acts like the 4-2-5 is something new and it really isn't.

I thank Jordan for his being a Cyclone and taking his academics serious and obtaining his degree. More power to him if he wants to play in front of his family every weekend.

Losing a player from the two deeps is always tough because injuries pop up and it is nice to have guys like Harris to be on special teams. However, IMO I rather try to replace a LB vs. d-lineman or d-back. Also looking back, we have struggled to find that tackling machine in the middle the last couple years with Harris (75 tackles) and Miller (55 w/injuries). The prior 5 years with guys like Smith, Klein and George our MLB position had 110+ tackles each season- so I wouldn't call Harris' production irreplaceqble.

Also player departures are not uncommon with coaching changes and this is the first really big loss that wasn't attributed to chronic injuries. IMO we have been lucky so far.

And what exactly do you think people are thinking?
Kind of what i was thinking. If it's going to be rougher than people think, it's going to be downright scary. Losing a starting LB on a defense that lacks physical tacklers is a big problem when we play teams like Iowa, OU, Texas, and Kstate. On the other hand, ISU will be forced to put a smaller more athletic kid in his spot so it might help out against spread teams? Ok, I'm stretching, but it's worth a try.

We've got a lot of young guys that have not yet seen field but could hold promise..Bobby McMillin comes to mind...played well in spring..Schoenbuchner comes to mind..Marcel Spears..we've got 1 proven LB who by all accounts is going to be really good in Harvey..just need one more to step up..people act like we just won 9 games in an actual season instead of 3 years total..
