This is the downside of a coaching change, some guys are not going to be happy, some guys are not going to fit in, some guys are just loyal to the prior staff. The ISU linebackers in general were not good last year, so the fact that a starter got beat out (I am going with that assumption) is not a real shock. I wish this stuff didn't happen, but it does anytime a coaching change is made. It has actually been better than I would have expected.

I must not have seen these articles yet. :) All the other articles I read say he was a breakout player and the starter. I guess if it makes you feel better by telling yourself bs then by all means go ahead

I would like to know where all these people heard harris got passed by in the depth chart. Sources?

http://amestrib.com/sports/football-who-were-isu-s-top-two-linebackers-spring

Clearly states that Harvey and Seeley were our best two linebackers this spring (they even talk about Harris). But what does our linebacker coach know? I'm sure there are plenty of you on here that know more than Coach Veidt and know that players like Seeley cant improve in the offseason....

Give me a break.

What? It was well documented he was struggling with the new defensive scheme. Where did you see he was a breakout player under the new staff?

Solution to your inability to post links can be solved by your solution on how easy it is to Google. Just saying....

Below is what Campbell said for the spring outlook on CF. Harris seemed like an afterthought in most of the comments that I saw by the staff. He definitely could bring the hammer, but he must have other deficiencies.

Campbell On The Linebackers
“Linebacker is more of a wide open race in just about everything that comes to the table. It really starts for us in the Mike and Will area, the interior of that group. Obviously, it’s nice that we have guys that have played. Jordan Harris has played a lot of football and I’m excited about what he has done and his ability to play. We have some young guys like Reggan Northrup, who has been really impressive in terms of skill-set and ability. Willie Harvey has been really impressive. Brian Mills, another kid that has really shown up for us. Obviously, Kane Seeley is a senior that has good leadership ability and has played here in the past. And there is Marcel Spears Jr. If you know to me, you know that a linebacker has to be a guy that’s like a quarterback. They have got to be a communicator, a conductor, and someone who can run sideline to sideline and tackle. The game has changed so much today. Linebackers have to have that unique ability to play in space, especially in our conference. They have to tackle well in space, but also have the ability to come inside and get downhill when the box is reduced. I think we really know what we want from that position and we are really excited to find out who can do it.”

That was the spring outlook (AKA before spring ball started)....the Ames Tribune article was from two weeks ago (and includes talking about Jordan Harris, so it was before the transfer). Clearly things changed.

Getting beat out and so you up and transfer.

Good gawd an entitlement culture taken root in athletics.

How about training harder and sticking it out one more year?

Nope. Wants to live closer to Mom. Will be moving into her basement after next year, staying there until he is at least 30 years old.:jimlad:

We are losing him and not really gaining an extra scholly. He wouldve at the very least been a good special teams/backup. Personally, I think he would've played a lot. Seeley just is not good.

Personally outside of more run oriented teams such as Iowa and KSU, I don't see Seeley getting a ton of PT. Jevohn Miller 2.0

Although said before the Spring game, you have to think that this is part of the explanation. Harvey and Seeley are singled out in the recent article because they are doing better at these things. Too bad. I was looking forward to what Harris could do with the new coaches.

We need Miller 3.0. Miller 1.0 didn't know where to be. Miller 2.0 found his places and made a ton of tackles.

P.S. Even though out of position in the West Virginia overtime, he made the play to save that game for us.

We've got a lot of young guys that have not yet seen field but could hold promise..Bobby McMillin comes to mind...played well in spring..Schoenbuchner comes to mind..Marcel Spears..we've got 1 proven LB who by all accounts is going to be really good in Harvey..just need one more to step up..people act like we just won 9 games in an actual season instead of 3 years total..

Agree. This is most likely the last negative to drop as a result of the coaching change. I'll take it compared to all of the positives we've seen to date with Matt Campbell and staff.
