Calling all Horror Movie Fans: Favorites and Open Discussion

Scared the crap out of me. And my brothers would make bird noises every time we went outside. I think it got me because unlike zombies or witches or whatever, birds are real things that actually exist.

If I ever meet Carvers now I know what to use to scare her! :wink:

"Dark Skies" anyone? Alien abduction scares the HELL out of me. "The Fourth Kind" is fantastically scary and "Fire in the Sky" scarred me at the age of thirteen.

Supernatural horror is my favorite genre, and the original "Poltergeist" is my #1 all-time. The remake didn't disappoint me as much as I thought it would. Loved The Conjuring. Didn't enjoy the sequel as much, but it's solid enough to be excited for a third installment. "The Grudge" has me forever terrified of crawl spaces.

Also love a good possession movie. "The Taking of Deborah Logan" and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" are worth seeing.

Haven't seen the Babadook, but The Witch was amazing.

I also liked Insidious, but was dissapointed that they gave no credit to HG Wells. It just happens to be that I've read a lot of HG Wells and Insiduous borrows from one of his more obscure short stories called The Stolen Body. Not the whole thing, but a lot of how the ghosts try to posess living human beings bodies and what everything looks like in the realm of the dead. It was all I could think about as I finished watching it the first time. I've re-watched it since and looked for a mention of HG Wells anywhere in the beginning or closing credits, but found nothing. Here is the short story, if you're so inclined to read it and let me know what you think.

I think there's an animated movie of three HG Wells stories on Netflix. It got pretty good reviews. I'll have to look it up when I get back to the house.

I didn't think the Grudge movie itself was scary, but that sound she made haunted me for much longer than I'm willing to admit.

The Audition is an over the top creepy but very good Japanese horror movie.

I've always loved Cabin Fever even though it has a lot of teen horror cliches.

The original Alien is in my ten five of all movies and feels like a horror movie for most of the way.

The Alien series has always been one of my favorites (except for AVP2 and Alien Resurrection). Have you watched the new Cabin Fever (2016)? It's pretty much just a re-hash of the original and kind of dissapointing. I did enjoy Cabin Fever: Patient Zero and they've been hit or miss with me in general.

As far as Miike's movies, I really tried liking them but was never really my cup of tea (I do like an ocassional one here and there). I will say his directing is very good, though.

I like some of Tartan Asia Extreme releases, just not all. Have you guys watched the Japanese horror movie Infection? I actually enjoyed that one:

I haven't seen Audition yet. It's always toward the top of horror movie lists, but I just haven't brought myself to watch it yet. A Tale of Two Sisters is another Japanese horror movie I hear a lot about that I really need to watch.

I watched A Tale Of Two Sisters and did like it quite a bit. It is actually a South Korean movie. If I had to rate Asian horror cinema:

1a. Japan - lot of volume. Some great, some too weird/silly for my taste.
1b. South Korea - a lot of volume here as well. Some very good movies here also.
2. Hong Kong - not as much quantity, but good quality.
3. Thailand - haven't seen any that were any good.

Just looked it up. It's based on Edgar Allan Poe, not Wells. Still some big names in narration. Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi, Guillermo Del Toro and Roger Corman. I think I'll end up watching it. It's called Extraordinary Tales.

I watched it and did like it, I would rate it about 6.5/10. More action than horror, IMO.

Sinister is by far my favorite horror movie. Sinister 2 wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but didn't come close to the first.

Can I ask, for those that liked the Conjuring, what it was that made you like it? If you know? I found it ridiculously boring and can't figure out what about it people found scary. Maybe I just need to try to view it in a different light?

Alien abduction also bothers me as well. A Fire in the Sky also messed me up the first time I saw it by myself. In the dark. Possession movies are hit or miss with me. If not done right, the possessed can come off as pretty cheesy.

Watching "Hush" right now. Typically not a fan of the intruder in the house type of movies, but this one got good ratings on Netflix and IMDb, so I'm giving it a shot.
