Loved them. Thought the gold outline helped the numbers pop out a bit.

It's been a few years since I was in the AD, but this was definitely not something they were given months or probably even weeks to deliberate over and I'd guess they make some changes if they keep these for future seasons, like maybe white or gold outlines of the names and Iowa State. Like someone upthread said, these are the exact same as the regular unis just on a different color (that Nike likely already had available, due to using it for other teams). The "Pro Combat" unis that were all the rage a few years ago and other significantly different alternates were/are in design phases for 1 to 2 years before even being ordered -- a year in advance. Nike apparel and uniform orders are due for submission by around Halloween every year (i.e., what we wear next year is due in about 6 weeks) and getting custom items after that takes more than just a phone call and a please. They probably didn't have time to get samples in, test color combos, give feedback, and repeat until "just right."

Considering that, these were damn good uniforms and I'd love to see them worn as cardinal or white helmet, white jersey, anthracite pants for a road game or white helmet, anthracite jersey, white pants at home. I don't know how well the cardinal jersey would go with the new pants, in my head it seems like it wouldn't work as well.

I like them, but on TV you can't make out the names of players or the "Iowa State" on front, which kind of defeats the purpose of promoting the university when a casual fan tuning in had no idea who is playing

ISU seems to fk up a good thing somehow

They looked sharp to me. Maybe white letters would stand out, but people watching this game will know the #s anyway. This one probably had almost no casual viewers.

Uni's are growing on me, maybe because we aren't playing poorly.

IMHO I'd like matte cardinal helmets and not glossy with these unis.
I hear you but I'm the other way; didn't like the cardinal matte helmets at all last time they were used. Hope they never bring those back. Maybe if they did it differently, perhaps a simple one-color stencil logo, it might work. But I do prefer the gloss or semi- gloss atleast, helmets.

I liked the dark gray just fine, glad they chose the darker gray/charcoal, vs the lighter gray. Next year I think they do away w/ the shoulder stripes on all colors, but they could keep the stripes on these for a year or two, it does bring in the needed cardinal/gold. I like them even more if if the coaches/players like em, which I think they do.

Totally agree on trying different combos

I'm 48 and I loved them. You might want to keep the whole "older crowd" generalization down a little bit.

Oh and ...get off my lawn

CW also whined about old people not wanting to change the uniforms on his postgame show even though there is absolutely nothing to support that characterization and generalization except stereotypes and the usual CF old people bashing.
