I've been told Iowa State will host Tyler Junior College forward Eden Ewing this weekend on an official visit. He's a 6-8, 215-pound wing with offers from ISU, LSU, Purdue and Fresno State. Sounds like Daniyal Robinson went and watched him early in the fall then William Small went back a couple weeks ago and really liked him.

I'll be talking with Ewing this afternoon so I'll know more then. Here's his highlight tape for now:

Do they not like their bigs that they have on campus now and or Lards chances?

I think Ewing is more of a replacement for Feazell after his de-commitment. His recruitment aligns with that timeline.
They have 3 more scholarships available and Prohm is on the record that he'd like to a JuCo or Transfer post due to their youth there next year regardless. A older target post was always in the staffs plan for this year.

Looks like he can play and is maybe under the radar. Lock him up before others come calling!

From the little bit of film that exists on Ewing, he's more of a skilled Forward. Slight build and has a little bit of a handle. Probably would play the stretch 4 and could even play the 3 some.

My guess is they view him differently than Young, Kasongo, Carter and Lard in terms of how they would play them.

Would be a nice get. Looks like he has some ball skill so that's good. Definitely could use some upperclassmen in the front court next year.

Looks like he originally committed to Nevada out of HS:

http://www.rgj.com/story/sports/col...rbal-commitment-texas-small-forward/16860961/

Quote in the article from former Longhorn T.J. Ford:

"He's got a lot of versatility," said T.J. Ford, the former University of Texas star who played eight seasons in the NBA for four teams. "He can play the 4 spot. He can play the 3 — his ball handling, athletic ability, rebounding, running. He can bring a lot of things to the table with his skill set. He's a unique player."

....
Ewing's connections to Ford go back a ways. Ewing's uncle, Daniel Ewing, played with Ford at Willowridge High in Missouri City, Texas. Both were McDonald's All-Americans in 2000-01. Daniel Ewing went on to play for Duke before a pro career that included a short stint in the NBA and now six seasons in Europe.

The younger Ewing, whose Bush High team has reached the state semifinal each of the past two seasons (he averaged 10 points and seven rebounds last season), said Carter told him he could play some small forward and some power forward here.

He would be a great addition. Right now, there is nothing certain about the posts we will have next year.

Young - has shown potential, but hasn't played a college game yet
Kasongo - older transfer, but he hasn't shown he can be a D1 starter yet
Carter - 2nd yr in program, but does not appear to be in the rotation yet and may not be ready next year
Lard - not on campus yet, a real unknown on when he would be ready to contribute
Stokes - physically looks like he could play as a freshman, but not committed to us yet

JUCO recruiting goes a little under the radar- so I don't think the news of Ewing visiting had much to do with Feazell's de-commit. After all we are still going after Stokes, so the staff definitely sees the need for young post players.

As others have mentioned with 6 scholarships- we were going to only sign 4, maybe 5 HS kids. So 1 or 2 JUCO's/transfers was always the likely makeup of this class.

I think it gives ISU good post balance between classes for 2017/18:

Jr - Kasongo, Carter, Ewing?
So - Young
Fr - Lard & Stokes?

Even with those 6 names- that isn't the most proven group of players. Still could see us take a post grad transfer next spring. Especially if Ewing is a 3/4 type player. Carter's development will also have a big impact on spring recruiting.
