Next year will be a huge change, and a fresh start. First year in a long time without expectations. I like years like that sometimes as you can just enjoy watching the team develop (and surprise at times).

Especially after what is shaping up to be a turd of a season.

I'm still guessing that we'll find a way to turn it around and get into the NCAA somehow. Maybe so, maybe not. Just getting there to extend that streak would be an accomplishment based on what we thought this team would be (assuming MM and Naz would be gone).

I agree. It sucks having expectations to only have them blow up in your face. I'm not saying that the season is over, but this team needs to right the ship quickly, otherwise it could very quickly spiral out of control.

You know what, while I love what a couple of these seniors have done fo ISU hoops, a part of me just wants to see how Prohm will approach things with more of his guys.

I am of the opinion, they still try to play Hoiball without the most critical component of Hoiball.
After this year, the other part of Hoiball is gone.

It could end badly or it could end well.

Lets see what the transfer market and JC market bring.

What exactly were the expectations though? I definitely thought we'd drop off from last year. I thought/ hoped we'd be somewhere between a 6 and 10 seed in the tournament. I still will be surprised if we aren't a tournament team. I also think it was unrealistic to expect zero drop off after losing Niang, Nader and Mckay.

I know we've had worse losses than this on past teams that made the NCAA tournament comfortably. Losses at Texas Tech come to mind.

Like you said though, just need to regroup and not let that performance become a trend.

We're starting an All-American, and 4 seniors... i feel like the expectations should be fairly high.

What?

Experience doesn't mean talent. Fred had seniors his first year, but not a complete team. Likewise we are far from a complete team this year. Even less size than normal, functionally no post game, no elite shooters, no true creators (although Burton is close). We are easy to defend in terms of talent as we are due to anything Prohm related. Add in the Prohm transition and we have a super thin margin for error.

Hoiball this year is totally dependent on Burton being near Gonzaga like. I think Hoiberg could make that work (see White). Prohm got Nader to be an effective swingman, maybe he can get Burton to play effectively in a White role.

Maybe Prohm making this team more defense based is a result of our offensive limitations, not a cause. With our numbers, guard numbers, and lack of size I'd think speeding up the game, even if more like Huggy ball than Hoiball, would be better than this halfcourt game.

MM was an AA level guy when he played with NBA guys and in a different system. From three years of watching Morris there should have been at least a little doubt on if he was a go-to guard.

I agree for the most part, but so far the transfer recruiting has been pretty pedestrian. Bowie was a good pick up, but Holden and Kasongo are bench players at best.

Agree on Kasongo, again on paper and stars when he was recruited all world, but his college numbers say #9 coming off the bench.

Have not seen an updated list on who they are on from a JC perspective and we will not know what the transfer market is like for a few months.

The one thing I like is slowly they are working towards getting these freaking classes balanced out again.

They brought in 1 JC last year to give us at least 1 Junior, and then 3 frosh, hopefully Lard makes it.

You add 2 JC's this year, now you have a couple more Juniors, Kasongo is classified as a junior as is Babb I think so that would give you 4 that can play next year.

We basically skipped 1 year of recruiting 2015 thanks in part to the Fred uncertainty.
If rumors are true the last of that illustrious class will not be with the team next yearr. Brutal.

Babb has turned out to be a good addition from 2015. It will be really interesting to see how they fill the rest of the class out because if they do have a transfer that will leave 4 spots to fill.

Possible new target.

@JKim97 Ole Miss & Iowa State were in today to see 2017 @TeamBelief_AAU F Alex Yetna, per his coach.

And a lefty...

@coreyevans_10 Alex Yetna with another great start to the day. Available lefty big man with excellent instincts and rebounding skills in the lane

Permission granted to call me crazy but I think we finish fourth which makes NCAA a sure thing.

The difference from past years is that's the absolute top.

No starzzz on 247. Oregon State offer reported but listed as "cool".

Looks like he's originally from France. Probably Malou 2.0

Saw a tweet from November having him play for Putnam. Dembeles old school. If accurate, maybe it's a small recruit?

Looks like Alex is a lefty. I like our chances already. Based on twitter, it appears he is getting a lot of high major interest. Not sure why 247 doesn't have much.
