I'm sure TV networks won't be able to wait to get their hands on some Western Michigan-Temple inventory. That's ratings gold!

Go look at the ratings ESPN gets on D-II and FCS playoff games. Of course it isn't the same of major college football but they are still better than most shows generate.

Who would care about it though?? Can't imagine it would generate much interest

It would surely beat the 15 or so bowl games of teams that I've never seen play and didn't watch. I don't see why they wouldn't organize this other than they still think they are getting into the P5 playoff's.

Something like this would never come to fruition or gain any interest for that matter. Also, as a member of one of the Non-P5 schools, why would you want this? Getting crowed the best of the mediocre? bleh.

the Ohio vs Troy football game got over2.5 million viewers for their bowl game last Friday making it the most watched thing on tv that night.

They would get a good amount of viewers I would bet.

They have a point that if TCU got dropped from 3 to 6 for no reason two years ago, a non P5 school will always face being dropped in the last week even if they've worked their way up to top 4.

I'd actually be interested in watching some of this, more than minor bowls, but the long term negative is obviously that they've created a clear second lower tier for themselves. The true value of this might be to bargain for a guaranteed spot or two when the 4 team playoff expands to 8.

BYU hasn't been so excited since thinking they actually had a shot of joining the Big12.

Sounds like a step along the way working towards the separation of the G5 from the P5 conferences.

They might as well cash in on more games and more money at their level because there's no way the committee will let them in, it's too tall of an order. A G5 team basically has to go undefeated for 25 straight games to get in.

I think this is what is most likely to happen, but unless the G5 could play the P5 in bowl games, it would nearly kill Bowl games. Im still in favor of the 16 team playoff where all 10 conference champs get an auto bid, with 6 at larges.

There's still money for non-playoff P5 bowl games. Those are the ones that sell tickets and get views as it is. Compare attendance for games like WVU vs. Miami and Aggy vs. KSU to the first week of (mostly) G5 games.

Splitting the G5 and P5 into separate divisions needs to happen for a lot of reasons. Not least among them is preventing our arbitrary relegation.

That is a brilliant idea. It's football, it's a playoff system of teams you "know", and it's football.
You have 3-4 weeks of college football just stopping in Dec. (so the kids can study for finals, lol)
Take those 3-4 weeks have the playoffs and either have your semi-finals/champ game over the holidays or maybe just the championship and it would easily get viewers.
And best of all it would push the P5 teams to really think about adopting it.

Just to throw an idea out there. What if the the G5 get three games the 5 conference champions and one other G5 team, win your game you are in on an 8 team playoff. So then you get the 5 P5 conference champions, and 3 winners of the G5 Play in. That to me makes the most money for the G5 and expands the money for the P5. I have no clue what you do with ND in that scenario.

I wonder if this is really an attempt to bring up how bad the committee is at anything other than installing big name schools more than it is a serious discussion.

But there would be no doubt some of the lesser known bowl games would die.
