Pretty cool the kid is from France as well. The fact he has his ISU offer pinned to the top of his Twitter is a huge sign that ISU is in the lead for him. Seems like the kind of kid who could develop into a really good player.

What have you thought of him when you watched him play?

Haven't watched him play. Just saw the tweet and am hoping our staff has at least been in to evaluate based on our need for big men next year and the interest he's getting from other big 12 schools.

Feel like with our scholarship situation, we could afford to take a chance on him.
Can't find any stats on line, only ones from last year, where they look incomplete. But here is what I found on the IWCC website:

"2015-16: De'Quon Lake's performance during his freshman season with the Reivers earned him NJCAA Region XI honors. In the summer of 2016, he was invited to participate with some of the elite junior college players in the country at Jerry Mullen’s Top 100 Juco Camp, recognizing Lake as one of the Top 100 returning NJCAA players in the nation.

HIGH SCHOOL: De’Quon Lake comes to Iowa Western from the US Virgin Islands via Newport News, Virginia. The 6’10 Lake produced an impressive double-double average in his senior season at Menchville High School averaging 21.9ppg, 11.3rpg. He also averaged 5 blocks and 4 assists per contest earning him all conference honors. De’Quon helped lead head coach Ben Moore’s Monarchs to a 24-9 mark during that senior campaign."

Was he a non-qualifier then?
I couldn't see anything that mentions that. Earliest article on him was from 2014 that talks about him being really raw because he had just started basketball not that long ago. I'm sure someone could figure out if he was a non-qualifier, though

PG is a very important position so Wigginton was a big get, but we graduate 6 SR's and our entire starting 5. Every position is a big need in this class.

That's not necessary Prohm's fault because our classes have been unbalanced, but ultimately he's the one that has to straighten it out.

It would be great if we could land Yetna. That would give us a strong core of players. Then you can grab the best available shooter/scorer from the transfer market or junior college and play through your youth next season.

I agree, we have 8 scholarship spots for guys who could see their first ISU game action for the 2017/18 season. If we fill the 8 scholarships with Wigginton(g), McNeill(wg), Lewis(wf), Lard(p) and Kasongo(p) it brings in 1 newcomer at each position. Add to that the returning players: Jackson(g), Weiler-Babb (g, wf), Long (wg,wf), Young (p) and Carter (p) and we have a solid roster, but some missing pieces.

We have 3 available scholarships and possibly more with attrition. IMO we need two proven scorers from either JUCO or grad transfer to fill in at wg/wf and post. I could see us banking the 13th scholarship as the staff has been recruiting the HS junior class hard and the potential is we only lose Jackson for 2018/19.

I'd not heard Lake's name before, have we been in to see him at all? Or is it just a post to show that there is someone playing well, that is 6'10, in our backyard?
The staff has to know about him and likely has seen him play multiple times. He was a teammate of Donavon Jackson last year. We are either keeping a low profile on our interest or possibly have some insight as to why it would not be in our best interest to pursue him.

Some high praise for Terrence Lewis from tweets on 1/11/17...

@ny2LAsports: Most improved kids I've seen from freshman to senior year - Myles Turner, Terrence Lewis, Jalen Brunson, Branden Dawson, Musa Jallow etc

@ny2LAsports: 3 of the hardest working kids I've seen to date - Jabari Parker, Courtney Ramey, Terrence Lewis, etc - obviously not exclusive list

@ny2LAsports: It seems like every time we're at @trainAPwi 2017 SF Terrence Lewis is there working out - hard work pays off #IowaState #HMD1

That's high praise.

If we can land an explosive big man to go with this group, we should be looking good by 2018.

What is this "JUCO" everyone is talking about? This recruiting class is DONE and we'll never get good big guys(sad!). anyway even if we did I can't remember any successful JUCOs to come to ISU and do anything good. This class is a failure whar my big big boys????
How can you not remember Edozie? Saved our season.

The praise of Lewis makes me think he will be a big contributor for ISU next season. Talent plus hard work is a winning combo. Seems like Wigginton is the same way.

It's your own fault. You're the one that wants an 8 guard lineup. The staff listens to its constituents.

Regarding our big man "problem", I'm wondering if our run and gun/rim runner reputation doesn't put some big guys off? Not all the big fellas care to run their asses off.

I've considered this too. I think it's just harder in general to recruit an immediate impact big guy and there are just fewer available skilled guys who fit our style (yes, I realize this has been pointed out a million times on CF).

I do, however, see Race Thompson in 2018 as a perfect fit. He seems made for our system and I'm sure that is why he is the staff's #1 priority in that class.

I look at recruiting big men in basketball similar to recruiting DLmen in football. There's only so many studs and they are going to the traditional powerhouses, we will have to find one and develop them.
