And in your case, you don't win the Big 12 tourney and beat Kansas at their place by being average. This will be an interesting game. I just hope the Purdue team shows up ready to play. IMO this is a pick em game, which is what I think Vegas is saying.

My only observations on Purdue is they're kind schizo and I think they're good but not mortifying from watching them in person last night.

Going to be really hard for ISU to get going unless they're hitting.

@Boilergrad out of curiosity, and maybe it has been discussed, but what will Purdue do against a pick and roll when Haas is in the game. A lot of ISU's sets involve a high ball screen with Young, will Haas come out to hedge? Or will he play back as to prevent the drive to the basket?

Mocking his efforts to ingratiate himself by telling you that he's been telling those Cyclone fans about Purdue's virtues, I brought this along:

I felt Vidkund Quisling would be too obscure. I also don't think your guys can keep up when the pace increases.

Yeah, if you're playing obscure, give yourself a pat on the back. I'm just a simple engineer...

You're comment on pace may be true. But not sure the pace will increase like it did in your game last night.

Big weakness for Haas. Obviously not enough speed to play up on it. He's been burned on it numerous times this year.

That's why people aren't afraid of him. He may get his points, but I don't know who he can guard and that liability may more than make up for his scoring. I wonder how much he'll even play against us.

He won't get big minutes tomorrow night. He obviously can't guard on the perimeter, so it depends on how well your Young can shoot from outside. But don't underestimate how his size might impact the game. At times he can be dominant inside. He's absolutely huge.

Maybe he'll listen to you. He's certainly not listening to us.

Don't take this as disrespect Purdue fans, it's just the way Solomon is. He could make a game winner and show no emotion.

I like it! He's focused. And quite frankly, he shouldn't care who Swanigan is. Im sure he plays his game and doesn't worry too much about hype. That's the type of guy you want on your team.

I was impressed by Burton. Very athletic. Reminds me a little of Roosevelt Jones from the Butler team a couple of years ago. Plays much bigger than his height.

I think Burton is a lot more athletic than Jones but he doesn't have as good of a handle and isn't near as crafty

Boiler fan here. Look forward to a good game tomorrow night. You guys have a great team and I'm concerned about us matching up with your guard play. I have great respect for what you've accomplished this year. But in reading through some posts on here, there are some of you who seem to think Purdue is slow and unathletic, and will be an easy win for you. Some even saying "F@@@ Purdue". I think you're greatly underestimating what it took for Purdue to win the Big Ten Conf, even in a down year. I'm not saying Purdue will win. But I also hope you respect Purdue enough to know it will not be a cakewalk for you either. We have two very athletic guards in Thompson and Edwards, along with Mathias, who some considered the B1G DPOY. All of them shoot the 3 very well. You all know about Swanigan. Some of you have been bashing our 7'2" center Haas. He's not the most athletic, but if he gets the ball deep in the paint, more often than not, you can count it. Again, I hope it's a great game tomorrow and I wish the Iowa State team the best of luck, especially if you move on to the Sweet 16.

Thanks for posting. It should be a great game tomorrow. I think a key will be if the rest of your team can efficiently get the ball to Swanigan. He probably won't have much trouble scoring once he gets the ball down low, but our guards can be a little pesky and if we can make the entry passes difficult it will help.

One thing to be aware of...you're not going to get a lot of love around here for winning the B1G because so much of that is dependent on schedule and who are the few teams you play twice.

This game is heavily reliant on who can dictate the tempo they want. That starts with the guards, so we should have the upper hand, but need our back court to come out hungry.

On the season Purdue played about one ossession per game faster than us.

We have the reputation for playing fast, but we're actually below the average pace. We tend to have very short offensive possessions and very long defensive possessions.

Purdue isn't a plodding team - and if you don't practice plodding you aren't good at it.

I don't doubt it. I just think a lot of people on the outside might look at our lack of size and think he's going to have a career night. I think he'll probably just be around his average if not less due to fewer minutes played.

So should I take your comment to mean ISU would have won the Big Ten with the schedule we played? Not sure how else I should take that?

We wouldn't have won. We were just an average team with potential until about halfway through conference play.

I think ISU would have. We are very evenly matched teams by most metrics.

Also, I never like to give the B1G any credit because that would mean giving Iowa credit and that's just unacceptable. :)

After looking at Purdue's record I guess I'm not sure we wouldn't have won. Purdue was two games better than us in conference play. We may have been able to pull it off even though we didn't fully figure things out until later in the year. Give us a few games against a Rutgers or Nebraska level team and take away a few of our home and homes against KU, WVU, Baylor, hell anybody else and we may have won it.

Seems like this game is a toss up which is cool. Whoever loses, I don't think it'll be a disappointment for them. Should be a good game and close IMO. If ISU goes cold, and Purdue can do what it does inside then they may win. If ISU plays a normal game, it'll be pretty close. Above average shooting and ISU wins even if Purdue does inside damage.
