Midland has 1400 students. Since 2009, the institution has added 15 varsity sports to create the state's largest athletic department which includes over 850 athletes. Midland sponsors a total of 29 varsity sports and 12 JV programs.

that just seems insane to me. Is there anything in Iowa that compares I wonder?

Grandview offers 25 varsity sports it looks like..with a student body of 2000.

A change to a almost exclusively being coached by a bunch of guys that lost when the lights were brightest and went and cried about it afterword? Pass.
What are you talking about? These are guys that have lost and cried? I'll give you Ramos, he's a baby and I don't like him, but the rest?? These guys have had an amazing amount of success at all levels, and no crying that I can remember from Metcalf, St John, or Zadick

Associate Head Coach - Mike Zadick - multiple time world team member and world silver medal
Assistant Coach - Derek St John - 4X AA and NCAA champ
Volunteer Assistant - Tony Ramos - NCAA champ and multiple world team member
CROTC Head Coach - Brent Metcalf - 2x NCAA champ, Hodge winner, multiple world teams

I don't care that they're Hawkeyes. My concern would be that there's not much variability in style or weight -- weren't they all basically grinders? The sport appears to be moving away from that. Maybe DSJ was more of a technician.

Reader would be at the very top of my list by a fair distance.

Because Ramos and Metcalf and two guys who were all in for the Brands style. So a staff like that would seem to be one that pushed that style and went after wrestlers who found it appealing.

Depends on who he brings in. The "Iowa Brand" under Brands is guys like Ramos and Gilman. Its for guys who think being an ******* is what makes somebody tough. Pushes after the whistle, bending rules, taunting after matches. **** like that. Which leads to hilariously childish responses when they lose because that's where people like that are emotionally. Not everybody in their lineup fits that mold. They just always manage to have 1 or 2 that do and those guys become the face of the team.

Reminds me years ago we had an exhibition match between the U.S. and Iran at The Knapp Center in Des Moines. Terry Brands wrestled, and lost to the Iranian, and threw some kind of fit afterwards--I think he refused to shake his hand.

St John is a great technician. Not the greatest athlete and was a 4X AA and NCAA Champ in spite of that.

Reader is one of my all time favorites. In my opinion, if you like Reader as much as I do, you have to like Metcalf. Wrestled in the same HS program. Now, the coaching they received after HS was different, but they are cut from the same cloth.

Just my opinion.

And both had iconic moments from an appearance in the finals. Reader's is an awesome picture that is widely used when people want to show how cool/intense wrestlers can be. Metcalf's is used when you want to show somebody how stupid and neanderthal wrestlers can be.

if it is the terrible move that you are making it out to be, do you have some kind of opinion on dresser than for thinking this is a good move?

Metcalf has wrestled so many matches on the biggest stages in the world. Had one instance when he lost his cool because his opponent was acting in an unsportsmanlike manner. He's had many other set backs on the world stage and handled them with class. You want to let 1 minor action define a guys entire career and character?

This was kicked off by the theoretical staff that was posted a page or two ago. I already said I wouldn't be thrilled by Metcalf but I don't care all that much. But both Ramos and Metcalf isn't something I'd have any interest in.
