Vaughn had a guardian that had a criminal record that landed a job in Vegas. His guardian or handler or whatever you want to call the guy is the reason he ended up at UNLV. It was a dirty deal.

I believe he got a job at Findlay Prep in Vegas. The same school Vaughn attended for his last year of high school. Findlay is founded by a huge UNLV booster. They could pay this guy whatever they wanted to for his services. Salary doesn't have to be disclosed because it is a private institution.

Since Vaughn had a prior relationship with him before he was a recruited athlete, he was able to provide Vaughn with whatever he wanted to, similar to a parent or relative. Findlay could pay the handler 300K to wash towels, of which he was free to give Rashad 250k free and clear of NCAA rules.

Simple really....

In Prohm we trust. Does he need a better assistant for recruiting?
Nah, maybe better fans though.

How would different assistants help this spring? Iowa St had visits, or scheduled visits, from some of the very best available players. They just didn't choose Iowa St, for whatever reason. You really think it was because of the assistant coaches?

I would be much more concerned if Iowa St was not recruiting any of these prospects, or if none were considering Iowa St.

Diallo was coming to Ames. Trust me on this

Given our lack of direct connections to many of those guys the staff did surprisingly well in getting visits, but you've never heard of recruits going somewhere due to connections to an assistant?

Absolutely, assistants are great for connections, but those are pretty random when it comes to transfer recruiting. The assistants with the best connections are usually from the AAU circuit, but I'm not sure Prohm is ready to hire a guy with little bball coaching ability, just for some recruiting. Especially when he himself is doing damn good at getting in the door now.

"What a bush league thing to do. It will blow up in their face eventually." :D

Self must have an autographed picture of Fred up in his office or something.

I think I have seen him chanting "WWFHD" a few times during games, too.
That's why Paige Hoiberg is working there. He's picking her brain about transfer recruiting.

Chris said it on one of his podcasts recently. None of those guys were coming to Ames.

I had a good source saying we would land Vaughn up until about 2 days before he selected UNLV.

Our current staff thought they were going to land Juiston, right up until he went elsewhere.

Diallo was probably the most likely, but since Fred couldn't tell him if he would even be here, it's a moot point.

Bridges and Monk were pipe dreams. We wouldn't have even gotten visits with those two.

I think Bridges would of considered coming to ISU especially with his tie to Monte.

You're putting too little blame on Fred, just as many are putting too much blame on Fred.

Yes. There's a balance that can be struck here. Fred left a really good two year roster. What he didn't leave was a really good three or four year roster with something in the pipeline to at least begin to build around. It would have been even worse if not for Naz's hips. I don't necessarily "blame" him for it but it is what he left Prohm to deal with and I can't imagine it's easy to try and fill all of these holes while making sure you are leaving opportunity for young guys. This, honestly is a really bad position for ISU to go get grad transfers. There's a lot of reason to think it will be a down year where they will struggle to win, but on the other side you're looking at some pretty good young guys coming in who could push you. I don't think it would happen but there's a possibility, if you're a guy like Brown, you look at Wigginton and Jackson and wonder where you will get yours because Jackson will likely have the ball in his hands a lot and Wigginton could flat out be better than you. Same for Alstork. Egor, I think was just a case of him wanting to go somewhere else but the lack of confidence in winning probably gets to him. We just don't have something obvious to sell a GT right now. They want to be able to show out and they want to be able to win. Neither of those things are necessarily a given right now.

Bridges is a MSU guy from head to toe. 0% chance he was going to ISU. In fact, if Morris would have had an MSU offer he wouldn't have gone to ISU. Bridges gave up being a lottery pick to go play for MSU for another season and people really think there was a chance he could have gone to ISU?

This is why we need a Death Star. So we can destroy Earth and the trolls on it.
