id definately go with one that is cat proof. Long story short, use to live in Urbandale and there was this cat right....this cat rolled around with a bunch of little weird dogs, like the kind that made you not marry that girl that you dated for 3 months before you realized she was way into little dogs. Anyway, the cat had this gang of little dogs and one day I realized my house had been trashed and I couldnt figure it out. Clean it up and a few days later same thing. Im like wtf. So I take the baby cam and set it by the door. Turns out, this stray cat and her gang of toy dogs were breaking into my house and throwing raves while I was gone. I know, unbelievable right? I wouldnt believe it either but I caught it on camera!!!!!! So i goes to the door store and the guys like ya dummy, you dont have a cat proof lock on your door. So I replaced it. Got an anderson door. Its similar to a pella but without the bells and whistles. But cat proof so def. plus.

I bought a low-E glass sliding door which was a little expensive but totally worth it, however there was a tax credit a few years ago when I bought it. Not sure if that still exists. I ordered it through the local lumberyard.

My only advice is not Pella. We have two and they suck. Not related: My dog can open our sliding glass door without much effort.

Whatever you do, don't buy the cheapest door you can find at a big box store (especially Menards!). If you're wanting a wood door, I'd say go with Andersen - Marvin is even better, but they're very expensive. The Andersen door has vinyl exterior and wood interior, make sure you are asking for the Narroline door and not the PermaShield door. If you don't mind vinyl, there are some very good doors out there which will be 25-30% less than wood. Gerkin (from Sioux City, IA) is the best one I've seen. I would expect to pay $1200 or so for a good wood door, maybe $800 for a real good vinyl door.

Depends on what you are looking for. Wood, Vinyl, or Fiberglass.

That is odd. I have 2 wood Pella Designer Series with Rollscreens and Blinds-between the glass and love them. They also come with a lifetime warranty.

I will say, my last one was a cheap vinyl sliding door, so I could be blinded by all the extra options.
