It has been said that Babb’s accomplishments will only be limited by the effort he applies. Great players practice with emotion and purpose never letting anything get in their way while some players try to slide by on their natural abilities. Naz was one of those players who showed respect for himself and his team in the way he worked and practiced. I hope Babb follows his example.

I don't think effort is the issue as much as consistent confidence and aggression. I've never seen Babb take plays off.

Yes, let's nip this crap in the bud now. When Babb struggled last season you could tell it was bothering him, so much so that I think it was starting to effect his confidence. No question on his commitment level. He has the physical tools to be a high level player for us.

It's a matter of him making the change mentally from deferring from the seniors to him being the leader.

it's been about confidence, not effort.

This times 100x. He has all the tools to be a very good player for us. But sometimes he doesn't seem to trust his skills. His pull up jumper is very smooth, he plays above the rim, can be a very good defender, etc. Just needs to trust in himself.

Also a reminder: Cap City games are at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny starting at 5:30 again tonight. Lions Club vs. Sparta (Shayock) in game one, Doerrfeld (Young, Lewis) vs. JayTees (Babb) in game two and Hinterland (Jackson) vs. Hannah Homes (Jacobson) in the night cap. I'll post if I hear any of those guys are NOT coming or if there is a surprise that is going to show up like Lard did last Thursday.

Ehh...prohm said what he did at the start of the season for a reason and it wasn't because nick lacks confidence. I suspect like many transfers he didn't work as hard as he could have during the redshirt year.

As far as his playing time last year decreasing it was probably due to solo needing to play and a 'freshman wall' with nick, who hadn't played much in 3 years.

Cyclad is right that nicks 3 point shot looks terrible in the CCL. Hopefully he is working hard on that.

If you ask me, he still is a poor shooter. Rest of his game is adequate
disagree, last year Prohm said Babb has the most potential for a NBA career on the team. I think he is a great shooter, but as other pointed out he struggled with confidence last year. I think because Iowa State has so many other veterans he felt more inclined to pass the ball up because he didn't want to shoot and miss.

Now that he is one of the older guys I think he will be more likely to keep the ball and shoot it now that he can't just pass it off to an underclassman.

I think he is an amazing shooter if he has confidence.

I don't know why everyone thinks he lacks confiddrnce. What makes you think that?

He certainly acts suprememly confident every time I see him.

I'll take a shot at this....

Watching games last year it was sometimes easy to forget he was on the court. He wasn't assertive. Seemed IMO to not look for his own shot but rather just move the ball on to the next guy when it looked like he could have created for himself. Whether this was due to a lack of confidence or simply the by-product of playing on a senior dominated team I do not claim to know.

However there were flashes. When he attacked the basket in the Big 12 tournament he was very successfully. I just hope he embraces the leadership and expanded on-court role and is on the attack much more frequently this year.

It's tough to be a SG off the bench unless you're 3sus. Have to keep warm shooting from deep, tough to do coming off the bench.

Tyrus did a pretty good job of it. If you're playing 20 min/game regardless of whether you're starting, you can get in a rhythm.

Not sure why you think he's an amazing shooter. He's made 11 3's in his career and he's going to be a redshirt junior

He it was suggested last year before the season that the only thing limiting Babb was Babb himself. I think even Monte or Naz said something about having to push him in practice sometimes.
