Good night of games

The first game with Solomon/Lewis and Jackson went about as expected in my book. At this point we kind of know what we are getting in Donovan and Solomon. Lewis looked a little cold at times but he has a smooth stroke and seems pretty fundamentally sound (coaches kid). I think I bought into the hype train a little too much on him beforehand. Not that I don't think he could be good but I see him more as a solid rotation guy this season who will see his minutes go up as the season goes on.

The second game however was worth the price of admission. I was impressed with all three players. Lard missed a lot of make-able layups IMO but his defense was phenomenal. Granted Lindell's team was real small but the shot blocking from him was effortless. He messed around and didn't really try in the dunk contest but in the warm-ups/ in the game he showed some real power. There has been a lot of talk about him gaining weight but he looked every bit the part of a big 12 big man.

Lindell was every bit as advertised. I thought he disappeared a bit in the second half but as many posters pointed out, Canada was basically hugging him the whole time, it was really bad and you could tell Lindell was not happy. His game was great all around but what obviously made him a top recruit was his athleticism. You could tell he knew people were there to watch him put on a show and he did. His blocks were pretty insane for someone who is 6' 3" and he elevates an unreal amount on his jumpers. Every time he did something good he'd stare back and jaw at Monte. His size is also pretty unreal for a freshman. When he was standing next to Monte he made him look tiny (granted he kind of is relatively speaking), but kind of like Solomon last year, the weight room is not a problem for him.

I could say a lot about Shayok but he is already my favorite player for next season. Super Marial is legit and IMO could be one of the best transfers we have had in the past ten years. Second half, he balled out and made some crazy layups look easy.

Another thing to remember about Lindell is that he's just been in Iowa for a week or so and is recovering from a concussion. And this was the first time he'd played with those guys.

Yeah I wasn't expecting a ton from him because of that. He exceeded my expectations biglier.

Hey Cade - Wigginton was certainly worth the trip, don't ya think?

Glad he actually played. My optimism for next year got kicked up a notch or two seeing what he brings to the table.
Most definitely! That was really fun. What a special talent he is.

For those that have viewed enough of Lewis at the CCL, I'm curious if he's athletic enough to play the 2 like Jok was able to do. Or if he's more of a true 3.

Obviously to play the 2, you have to be able to defend the 2, which makes it tough for tweeners.

Seen all of his games. He seems like a true three to me. Doesn't handle the ball much, good athlete but not sure he can guard true guards that well but an excellent scoring wing for sure. Might even play a little 4 if we go small.

I think he might match up with Shayok tomorrow night in finals. That will be a good test to see him guard a high level player.

Lewis is a wing all the way..and a wing that can hit the 3. He's still growing btw.

This year team is going to be a very very good defensive team

DJ, Babb, talley, Lard, are all goin to be very goodbye defenders this year. LW and Brase an unknown defensively..J long in HS was known I think as a good defender as well.

Lard as a frosh probably won't be much of a defender. Just because he has shotblocking ability diesn't mean he plays good defense and freshmen rarely do anyway. Add in the extra you're off I question it

One of the key points on Brase was that he's a tough defender and a very vocal, intelligent "quarterback" for the team on D.

This should be the best defensive team we've had in a while.

Brase had a good reputation for D a true Princeton. I believe Beverly said he prides himself in playing D.

If Wigginton can be solid as a FR, then I like our team defensively.

I agree. Like most freshman big guys, Lard will foul a lot. Too weak to command space on the floor, will give up position and foul. Not convinced he is a great shot blocker. Easy in this league with a lack of great athletes and skilled big guys. Lard is not a great jumper, just average. Spot minutes this year. If he works hard and hits the weights should give us two quality seasons.

I got a good laugh from this, thank you.

What? Play basketball in the off season?

Its not just that..I played College bball..and when you are at a diff level than your opponent bad things can happen..not saying this is the case but its a higher risk than it would be practicing with your peers. Its like a 20 yr old college player playing pick up game vs some 45 yr old wanna be trying to step in take a charge to relive the glory days etc..its just different.

You cant keep players in a bubble no..but u can sure minimize the risk.
