1. Margarita (on the rocks with salt)
2. Vodka/Mountain Dew (gives the least hangover)
3. Kessler Whisky/Squirt (poor man's whiskey sour)
4. Long Island Iced Tea
5. A ward-8. You take Bourbon, orange juice and lemon juice and shake it. Then pour it in a glass and top with grenadine. Very tasty.

As for #2........soda actually enhances the misery of a hangover. Something about the sugar. You'd be better off drinking the vodka straight. Also, clear liquors (vodka, gin, rum) have fewer "poisons" in them, and so contribute less to hangovers than the whiskies. I have managed to retain some of what I learned tending bar! (And I'm going to try your #5 - sounds good!) If you have not had a Brandy old-fashioned sweet - made properly, Iowa bartenders tend to struggle with it - you should try one. I think you'd like it.

rum and coke should probably be all five for me, ha.

1. Rum & coke (but it's actually cherry pepsi)
2. Margarita/paloma other citrus-y tequila drinks
3. Mojito/Daiquiri - frozen or otherwise...preferably frozen and drank on a beach
4. Amaretto sour
5. Purple rain - also best on a beach -
1 1/4 oz. Curacao, blue
1 1/4 oz. Vodka
2 oz. Grenadine
1/4 oz. Lime Juice
2 oz. Pineapple Juice
Mixing Instructions
Add ice and mix in blender for a frozen drink. Or shake with ice and pour into ice-filled glass.

vodka lemonade is another one

What do you recommend? I have to run to Hy-Vee tonight to grab some things for a picnic tomorrow. I could grab a spirit to enjoy for the evening!

Credit for this week’s idea topic comes from our good friend Angie.

Rank your top 5 mixed drinks. If you aren’t a frequent liquor consumer, rank the 5 you’d be most likely to order whenever you do.

Go!

Last week’s Friday 5: MBB home-and-home wish list

Gin and tonic (Seagram's for my everyday gin; Tanqueray for special occasions), Glenlivet with a splash of water.

  1. Old Fashioned. The right way. Muddle sugar, bitters, cherry. Fill with ice. Add Maker's Mark. Top off with club soda.
  2. Bourbon, neat
  3. Bloody Mary (try it with Jameson instead of vodka, it will change your life)
  4. White Russian
  5. Dark & Stormy
HM: Cherry Limeade - my new Bro in-law introduced this to me
Vodka
Juice from a couple lime wedges
Splash of sweet and sour mix
Splash of grenadine
Sprite

It doesn't matter how much vodka you put in because you will not taste it.

Gin and tonic
Margarita on the rocks
Mimosa
Sex on the beach
Vanilla vodka and Diet Pepsi

This thread is probably a good one to tell how old one is. 15 years ago my list would have been vodka Red Bull, amereto sour, Long Island, vodka Mountain Dew, and sex on thd beach.
