1) Whiskey Ginger
2) Big Ginger (same as above, just with a little lime juice...and a different ratio of ginger ale to booze)
3) Tinto De Verano
4) The s/o's margarita recipe
5) G&T (only if there are blacklights because I am a child and endlessly fascinated by UV-active quinine)

  1. Old Fashioned. The right way. Muddle sugar, bitters, cherry. Fill with ice. Add Maker's Mark. Top off with club soda.
  2. Bourbon, neat
  3. Bloody Mary (try it with Jameson instead of vodka, it will change your life)
  4. White Russian
  5. Dark & Stormy
HM: Cherry Limeade - my new Bro in-law introduced this to me
Vodka
Juice from a couple lime wedges
Splash of sweet and sour mix
Splash of grenadine
Sprite

It doesn't matter how much vodka you put in because you will not taste it.

That sounds ******* disgusting.

What do you recommend? I have to run to Hy-Vee tonight to grab some things for a picnic tomorrow. I could grab a spirit to enjoy for the evening!

Here's how I make old-fashioneds:

Take a 12 oz old-fashioned glass (they're squatty and wide) and put about half a teaspoon of white granular sugar in it. You will need some Angostura bitters - Hy-Vee sells it - and you will want to shake about 3 or 4 dollops of bitters onto the sugar. Take a can of Sprite or 7UP and pour just a bit in the glass, stir this mixture up completely. Fill the glass with ice, and add a couple ounces of brandy (Korbel is the best), and fill with the Sprite or 7UP. If you have a jar a maraschino cherries in the fridge, pour a little bit of the cherry juice in (that's my secret) and stir. Enjoy!!!!!

P.S. - Another nice garnish is to find some cinnamon sticks in the spice aisle (McCormick has these, HyVee should have them too) and put one in. The bartenders in Wisconsin have pre-made garnishes consisting of a half-slice of orange wrapped around a cherry, with a plastic spear through it.

To a purist, it might be outlandish.

But everyone that I have told to try has at least said it's good and several drink it exclusively now and make it a special order at a bar
It does sound odd but sometimes those are the best. I'd definitely try it.

It's much more smooth than the bite you get from Vodka.

Just a little touch of smokiness.

I'll give it a shot the next time I'm at an open bar with Jameson.

Thing is, Jameson has always had a little buttery sweetness to my palate, as opposed to the smokey. I like infusing vodka with peppers, onions, and other vegetables to give it some more flavor.

Here's a really excellent summer drink - Absolut Ruby Red and tonic, and make sure to bruise the lime into the drink. We like to garnish 'em with pickled mushrooms. (Good thing there aren't any bars near here.)

Does it have a name or is it just a Bloody Mary w/whiskey?

Not that I'm aware of.

I just specify to substitute the vodka with Jameson. If they don't have it, just whatever well whiskey they have.
