I believe all should have a voice, but all should be held responsible (within Constitutional limits) for what is said. We know what prominent University of Iowa football players thought in 2016--and you can't take it back. Who recruited those athletes? Who instructed those athletes? Who cheered for those athletes? I think we know. jimlad.png

I think it's a pervasive problem in our society. We expect athletes and other celebrities to have opinions on intellectual matters when in reality, they typically only excel in the completely unrelated fields of sports and entertainment. We give them more of a political voice than we give to people like me and you, and for a pretty silly reason.

As for who CJ and some others supported, I would remind you that Iowa voted red in the election. Many of your friends and posters on this website similarly supported the Donald, so keep that in mind. I would also imagine that a good proportion of ISU athletes supported him as well. That's life. He is a nationalist who said things that 'working-class' people generally agreed with, and appealed to a lot of their values when he was running. Of course, he hasn't done any of the things he promised to do on the campaign trail and has generally embarrassed and angered the USA while he has been president, but many of the people on this website and beyond supported him, and some still do. I agree that everyone should have a voice, but it doesn't make any sense that we'd give our athletes and actors more of a voice in intellectual matters than we give to doctors, lawyers, and highly educated people. But unfortunately we do.

I really respect KF and if I could be insulated from interaction from Hawk fans I would cheer for them.

Still other than the last two years there's no period you can back where iowa averages more than 7-8 wins per season.

It's always funny when hawk fan thinks he's making some brilliant argument to point out that ISU football is terrible.

The fact is that deep down the few rational hawk fans know that outside the state and BTN and Cowherds troll job no one gives a thought to Iowa football. Iowa football is nationally irrelevant. There was the perfect storm of a good team and trash schedule that led to the fake ID season that ended with a game that was like watching 2003 ISU vs OU or UT: so thoroughly outclassed that the game could be played a hundred times, and they would never have a chance.

Let's keep in mind that the fake ID season was surrounded by about 6 full seasons of being unranked. If you think Iowa football matters, pick another team that you feel is a player on the national stage that has spent 6 of the last 7 calendar years unranked.

Iowa football is irrelevant. ISU football is irrelevant. One fan base understands it, one is hopelessly delusional. Iowa over Michigan last year is no different than ISU over Okie St in 2011.
