Can we talk about Nebraska?...

Assuming basketball and football are all that matter, it won't be long before ISU is a better athletic school than Nebraska. Maybe not for conference stuff because I know football counts more there, but counting those two equally I think we have or will pass them.

ISU historically: Bad in football, great in basketball, trending up in both.
Nebraska historically: Great in football, horrible in basketball, trending down in football....for the last 20 years.

This is the exact reason why the B1G wishes they never added Rutgers or Maryland. Cable subscriptions are dropping like a rock so the next round of realignment will be about eye balls and individual subscriptions, not price gouging a media market for the rights to air your ****** product. Anyone who thinks Iowa State is destined for the Mac or Mountain West is really underestimating the loyalty of our rapidly growing fan base. Iowa State will be just fine folks.

I realize Rutgers is in a pro sports town, but the school is twice the size of Iowa State, ranked considerably higher academically and are an AAU university with a nearly 900 million endowment. They have gone to 9 bowl games in the last 12 years, winning 6 of them. In addition, they are in very fertile football territory and in the largest metropolitan area in the country.

Maryland shares much of this in terms of market and all of it academically and has been to 10 bowl games in the last 16 years. They likewise are fertile from a recruiting standpoint and bring along a great basketball tradition. Given the Big 10's move east, these were perfect adds.

I agree we'll be fine as long as Oklahoma and Texas are fine. Oklahoma running the table this year would be great for the future of the B12, in my opinion.

Being that they just added a 4th year to Mike Riley's contract I should try to see if I could add Pennywise's head onto this.

Exactly right. But what's odd to me is that I haven't been face to face with any Nebraska fans (admittedly a small sample size of a handful) who care. They're Iowa now at best and know as much. To acknowledge that would have been heresy just ten years ago where I grew up. Now it's a legit rivalry. The expectation of conference championships is gone. Heck, I know people personally who used to take close UNL wins as losses. That's all gone.

Can you imagine tOSU moving to the SEC, tanking, and then all their fans just shrugging it off? Well Neb fans used to consider their football team as better than tOSU every year.

It's certainly a very different sentiment than when they made the move initially.

Their message boards had HUNDREDS of posts about them "owning the big ten" and "running through the weak ass conference."

Yeah. Not so much.

I'm old enough to remember when it was referred to as the Big 2 and Little 6. Nebby lived on recruiting every single corn-fed Nebraska farm boy who grew up dreaming of being a Fusker someday. Osborne vs. Switzer. It was like Michigan/Ohio State or Alabama/Auburn.

Now??? Even though, like Janny says, they're still all up their own asses, they're just another team. They don't play the 3:30 games, because they aren't germane to the FBS scene. And that's gotta drive those poor people in Lincoln bat-**** crazy, because in that town all they have is football.

They seem to be institutionally stupid

Doesn't seem to matter who the head coach is...they still seem to put option QB's in non-option offenses.

They have had some laughably horrible QB's lately. They always pull in decent WR talent...but don't seem to give two flips about making sure they can actually get them the ball.

As it relates to the "Blackshirts," a good friend of mine from the military actually played LB at Nebraska for 4 years. (Not a starter, but on team, traveled, kind of guy.)

At least 4-5 times a year I get texts from him about "what pussies these current players are," and how they should never be allowed to be called "Blackshirts."

It's not most of the Big 10 that thinks of ISU as a MAC school - it's mostly just dooshy Iowa and Nebraska fans. I've had conversations with several people here in Michigan. They know who Iowa State is. They know enough to know that ISU's academics are really good. But the kicker is a lot of them kinda sorta wish ISU was in the Big 10. Now school presidents probably won't think the same way, but I always find it interesting that random fans in Michigan have a higher opinion of ISU than one would think. Oh - and most Michiganders don't think too highly of EIU.

Just so we're clear...none of this actually happened

The Big 10 is getting paid. Really well in fact

And why do so many people think the Big won't adjust to a new business climate as it changes?? These people know how to print money. To think they got fooled and the Big 12 and Cyclones.TV pulled one over on them....goodness

Just so we're clear...this ^^^ is that guy who is a moderator on Hawkeye Whatever (I think it's john's site) and he locked the entire website down when @CyTwins figured out who he was. HUGE cyclone fan until people realized he was dumb enough to use the same UN at both sites.

Pretty astounding that Frank Solich won 75% of the games he coached at Nebby, and got fired. I'll bet he's laughing a little, inside.

Lol

1). This story is less believable than Chris's stupid ******* story about somebody trying to Pee in his truck

2). And I'm absolutely positive that the big 10, and Michigan fans, are just dying to get a school that is ranked 115th in the country by US News....Would be the worst in the Big Ten… And has the most laughable list of athletic accomplishments in major conference history… Into the B10

Do you have a link that proves Texas came in and took away that game? I find it odd that you challenged another about OSU running the Big 10 and asked for links, yet you're doing it here.

Because he would rather Iowa state drop out of a BCS conference, than understand it's our willingness to align with UT that keeps us afloat.

The big 12 has UT and OU that run things. The big ten has osu mich and psu that control everything there. To say anything different means you either don't understand, or you are a fan of one of those schools spouting propaganda

...But seeing as Nebraska is clearly rooting for ISU over Iowa even though it'd make sense to root for their conference foe...makes me hate them less.

Where are you to confront this?

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'll do it in crayon next time so you can follow along, Jr.

"Oh and as a side note Michigan fans really respect ISU and wish they were in the Big 10 and ISU academics is known far and wide."

Holy ******* ****.

That's not what I said at all. I'm pointing out that prior realignment centered around conferences staking their claim in large media markets. If realignment occurs in a few years the focus is going to be on fan bases willing to subscribe to content. You are absolutely right, the B1G is printing money but in the long run Rutgers and potentially even Maryland won't hold the same value that they did when media markets are what drove the cash flow. Absolutely the B1G will respond but the writing is on the wall that content delivery is changing and the Big 12 is actually looking pretty smart for holding back.

the big 10 was smart to be first and the sec was smart to tie themselves to espn.
big 12 was smart for not chasing after them like pac 12 and acc and do the tier 3 option.

conclusion:
1. big 10 and sec are smartest
2. big 12 is next and hopefully getting smarter
3. acc and pac 12 are the dummies
