1 measly play from winning against Iowa. More than 1 measly play from winning against Texas.

Correct me if this isn't right, but can't private donor money be used to compensate the football coaching staff rather than "state" money. Therefore a group of major donors can toss in X to solve this without causing harm to other athletic teams budgets. Thanks.

Part of changing the culture is no longer being worried about the coach leaving. The proper response is why would he leave when he can accomplish what he wants to here and has set the foundation to do so.

Correct but the other part of the culture change is a AD that is willing to pay him a Top 30 national (Top 5 Big 12) salary.

If Campbell is only worried about his salary, he will likely bolt when the big boys start calling. I don't think this is the case. Instead of salary right now, he may be more interested in investing in other parts of the program. I would guess he wants this place to be as appealing to recruits as possible.

But even more than that, salary for coaches is probably a big deal for him. These guys are a family that have been together for a long time; he even played football with several in college. Increase assistant coach salary to keep the band together, and invest in recruiting resources. Show that we care about his "family" and that he can have everything he needs to be successful.

A.D. Pollard must keep CMC at all costs even if it means making him the highest-paid coach in college football! Why? Because if Campbell goes, Iowa State will NEVER be this good again! Nowhere will we ever find a coach who is this remarkably talented who wants to coach ISU. This is a Godsend to the Cyclone Nation. The Cyclones are 2 measly plays away from an 8-0 record in Campbell's second year. Why, even #1 Alabama has no top-5 wins yet like we do. A.D. Pollard: GIVE CMC $$$ TO STAY! I see playoffs next year. And ...he's here to stay.

Yeah... maybe ease off the Sunday booze a bit.

Like Matt Campbell has said since day 1 Iowa State is a sleeping giant. We have the resources, facilities, fan base, and $$$ to compete at a high level year in and year out. I think Jamie ponies up and gives him a nice raise.

I agree with your point, although some of the details are off.

CMC’s value to ISU is higher than any other school is likely willing to play, but unfortunately state institutions are no longer able to spend State money on these types of investments. Is successful football worth another 3 or 4 million to the university, not to mention the area? Yes, but we won’t be able to pay that much.

But it’s not only about being the highest bidder to CMC, and paying the assistants a lot more would go just as far.

And although CMC represents a great chance of future success, if he leaves we can find another good coach.

You know what you have in CMC do you really feel confident that there is a non-power 5 coach out there that we can bring in and have the success we are having now. I look at the MAC, CUSA and Sun Belt and I don't see that coach yet. If we are going to say our top dollar is 2.5-2.7!million prior to incentives then WTF are we doing. Why are we bowling in the South end zone?
JP runs a very balanced Athletics Dept. There can be both positives and negatives with that. But if I see JP say a single time that there is a limit to what Iowa State can pay (like he did with Hoiberg) then I think we need to find a new AD.

Yes, I’m very confident that there are other coaches that can win here. But the cost of discovery is typically very high (look at our history, as well as programs like NU/Tennessee that got lucky early but are now going through the hire and fire process). We should leverage that and pay as much as we can, which will take sacrifices by the fans/boosters and the athletic department.

I agree that sacrifices will need to be made by multiple parties including all donors.

Listen to CMC's post-game speech to the players about "immediate gratification". If there's anybody who understands "why" he's here, and somebody who "wants" to be here, it is CMC. I think that we need to have the discussion, but let's shelve it until after the season.

He's not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. When Urban steps down at Ohio State, then I'm sure he'll give it a good look if it's offered. But for now, he's ours.

We need to pony up some serious cash to keep this guy. Why spend millions on facilities and bowling in the south endzone if we are just gonna let a coach like this walk for more money. That being said i dont think hes leaving this year like most national people seem to think but the bill is gonna come due soon and i hope we are willing to pay it.

We need to pay his staff, although I know it’s often viewed as one and the same.
