We need to pony up some serious cash to keep this guy. Why spend millions on facilities and bowling in the south endzone if we are just gonna let a coach like this walk for more money. That being said i dont think hes leaving this year like most national people seem to think but the bill is gonna come due soon and i hope we are willing to pay it.

I have a feeling if JP put the word out that we need $$$ to keep CMC the donations from CyclONE Nation would come pouring in by the 55 gallon drum. I don't think it's a budget thing. I feel confident Jamie has already hinted/told CMC there is a payday coming. If he didn't he's not the AD we all know he is.

Right now everyone is in agreement that we need to keep CMC.

Now everyone needs to remember that when ticket renewals come out next year and the prices go up.

You can't expect bargain basement prices if you want to pay Campbell top 5 Big 12 money.

So just remember that when the time comes.

Loyalty and morals above money. Everyone needs to make CMC proud to be here

Great point. I hope people view it as the difference between either going back to CPR days or keeping this staff and winning. If viewed in that context I can find some beers that I no longer need to drink during the season and purchase another season ticket.

I also hope the AD is willing to sacrifice some non/revenue expenditures in the AD, if needed.

OK, I'm pretty sure our AD knows he needs to keep Coach Campbell. I'm also pretty sure that Toledo's AD and fans wanted to keep him. I say let's stop making threads about this topic and just enjoy the moment. Coach is going to do what is best for him, his family and his staff. He may still be here many years but we fans can only enjoy it for as long as it lasts and understand that Coach, just like any of us, will do what he feels he needs and wants to do. I guess if you look at these "let's keep Campbell" threads as entertainment only, then that is the only real value they have.

Sure, but if we don't do these threads, we'll do QB threads. Which one do you really not want to see?

Backing up the bank truck to Campbell because of one great month would be horrendous management and leadership (Pollard is way to smart to do this thankfully).

Giving the guy a good raise with more years is the right thing to do. But understanding what he wants is even more critical. If he wants to make $5 million+ at a big football school, there isn't much we can do to keep him (similar to the Hoiberg deal). But if he wants to build a legacy here, work with him to get him something reasonable. No one knows his true motivations - but we do know he's said many times that he is here to build something great.

Plus a $9+ million buyout is a HUGE number to overcome, even for the blue bloods.

What are we doing then as a program if we aren't willing to pay market value to compete for regular season championships in football and basketball?

We reseated Hilton and forced people to double their donation to keep their same seats. Then the AD comes out and says we can only pay the coach (CFH) so much. When we reseated Hilton the average donor increased their donation between $1,500 to $2,00 to keep their seats. (10,000 donors) At that clip the Department brought in 15-20 million in an effort to keep the coach. Then we didn't put an offer on the table but instead shamed the head coach. And then we pay a coach 1.5 million as a replacement. I'm just saying that the fanbase can do this and pay the money.

The AD simply doesn't like setting precedent that we can pay in excess of 3 million. That part of the culture needs to change as well.

You know as well as I do Fred wasn't staying even if we paid him $3 million

I never said we shouldn't pay market value. I said we shouldn't give Campbell a blank check. I mean, jeez, someone is suggesting we make Campbell the highest paid coach in college football and the dude has won 9 games here. That's insane.

Having the funds needed to pay his staff (along with providing generational wealth for his family) goes a long ways towards doing what’s best for himself, family, and his staff. Sorry, but your attitude is worse than those posting on this issue. It’s not time to “just enjoy the season, there’s nothing we can do”, it’s time to pay for fans to spend more on Cyclone football. You get what you pay for.

Well, market value may be closer to that than you realize. And Iowa State may need to pay more than market value (for the entire staff), if we’re being honest. It will cost more to lose Campbell than the savings you’re talking about imo. In the context of future realignment, it would be horrendous management and leadership to risk success over saving a few million a year. Stop playing checkers. You may not like it, but we’re likely down to our last play. How has value-shopping gone for Cyclone football the past century? Unfortunately we no longer can spend State money like almost every successful program did back in the last century.

I do know that. But then it begs the question of what we did with that 10-15 million that was sold to the fans as necessary to keep coaches.

I'm guessing Campbell will see a pretty good increase in pay after the season
