What is the BPI based on?

that is pretty optimistic, I'll be thrilled if we play at that level! Also, TCU #5 in the country?

Wouldn't a preseason BPI just be based on a team's predicted strength of schedule more than anything? I wasn't thinking is was any kind of prediction of where the team will be in the polls.

This is true. How you compete in comparison to your BPI is what matters. At this point, it would only be a projection. But it is designed to flush out the Fake ID teams with great records against weak competition.

For perspective, preseason BPI of teams likely to be in top 5 of AP poll (and popular choice for 1 seeds in bracketology):
3. Kansas
11. Arizona
13. Michigan State
14. Duke

It is alot about returning players and they include guys like Talley who have played before. I think they also said they do a little projection too on guys taking on increased roles,i.e. how Jackson, Young will do with extended minutes. A big reason Kentucky and Duke aren't ranked as high is because they have so many new players.

That's surprising based on where they think ISU will be at. Maybe our transfers won't be flying under the radar once the season gets going along with a 5* freshman and some solid returning talent.

TCU #5 and Duke #14??!! Hit me back when there are some actual data to put into those algorithms. (Yes, the word "data" is plural). And ISU at #20 seems a bit overly optimistic in the early part of the season.

If the current ranking is currently only based on your schedule, perhaps that suggests that they expect the big12 to be very good again and teams in the big12 will have dificult schedules because they're playing each other.

New member here and yes I was at the TCU football game Saturday. I would think BPI of 20 is wishful thinking to begin the season after loosing the seniors to the NBA. Not complaining though as a winning record and top five finish in Big 12 would be just awesomeNow at Conference Tournament time it would be great to see 20 or higher. Prohm has recruited some nice talent.

No Iowa.

I’ll have to google and see what they use to determine preseason ratings. It looks like it overrates experience, but then again, the last two teams to win titles haven’t had the super elite one-and-done talent, but they’ve had experience.
