We had two HS recruiting classes that we literally got nothing out of. That's a hard thing to recover from. Add in the disaster that was spring recruiting this year and, well, here we are. Having even just one guy from each of those two classes with the team would have at least brought us some stability. Right now we have a few role players from last year surrounded by a bunch of new guys. Of course it's a trainwreck.

Even before tonight this season was going to be about how these guys progress as a team. They've set a awfully low bar to start from, but I'll refrain from freaking out or calling for Prohm's head for now.

Some thoughts:

1. This team is really, really bad right now. No one is denying that.

2. Those of you who acted like Young was going to be the best player and was going to be a star were really stupid.

3. We simply will not win and cannot win unless DJ scores. He has to keep shooting and he needs to drive to the basket.

4. Babb needs to be a leader out there.

5. Just because this team is really, really bad doesn't mean we have the wrong coach.

6. Just because this team is really, really bad right now doesn't mean they won't get better.

7. If your happiness depends on Iowa State winning, you might want to check out for the season. You'll be miserable and you will make other people miserable.

8. Beverly and Talley were the only two that played like they gave a ****.

9. There are only like 8 teams that have made the NCAA tournament the last 6 years. All but us and maybe another school are blue bloods or mid major powers. Anyone that didn't expect a rebuilding year at some point---especially with a coaching change---is a ******* moron. Should we be better than a 20 point loss to Milwaukee even with an expected rebuild? Yes. But you have to pay the piper at some point and we are paying this year.

I am not trying to be hyperbolic here, but this might be the worst basketball loss I can remember in my lifetime as a 26 year old ISU fan. Not worst as in biggest kick in the nuts, this isn't even in that category at all. In the grand scheme of things this is a pretty non-impactful non-conference game.

I mean worst as a combination of margin of loss (18 pts) to weakness of team (I can't imagine they will have an RPI in the 200's at the end of the year). I know we've dropped some games to teams we should have beat (Drake Fizer/Tinsley year, UNI a few times under McDermott) but I would think they were closer than 18 pts at home. If somebody can think of a worse home loss from the Eustachy era on, please enlighten me.

The worst I can remember is when we lost to Drake with Royce White. I was there for that’s game and I vividly remember Royce completely airballing two free throws in a row. I am not nearly as old as many on this board so that is really the only one I can think of semi recently

At least the football team improved game after game. We haven't improved. This team has no chemistry and body language is horrible.

We are 3 games in. The football team didn't improve between Akron and Texas.

Under Wayne Morgan we lost to a terrible Colorado team at home. Under McDermott we lost to a bunch of terrible teams at home.

This was bad, but there have been other bad ones.

I'm not sure how this wasn't seen coming. There's a reason most preseason national media ranked us low this year. We lost a TON from last year. At least when we lost Niang, McKay, and Nader we had Thomas, Naz, Monte, and Burton who were proven players. Coming into this year, we only have Solomon and Jackson. Even they have to adjust to getting a lot more defensive focus from the opposition. They are playing different roles from last year. It's going to be a learning process. Trust the process, right?

Good thing about that was it was close, we put up more than 54 points, and it was a true road game.

We also didn't get blown out by Akron in football.

Yes. There's nothing good about tonight.

But we can't ******* lose our minds after every loss. Some of you will be in a mental hospital.

It's going to be a bad season. It's going to be a bad season for several reasons and plenty are to blame for it. Next year should be better.

Why are we even discussing/complaining about transfer recruiting? It should NOT be a focus. CFH was ahead of the trend and got the OK to roll the dice on some kids with issues. Those days are long gone. I can maybe see using a grad transfer to fill a role or bringing on a multi year kid who doesn’t work out somewhere but we need to be signing and developing four year players. Prohm has been here long enough to have some third year guys that should be ready to do heavy lifting, but we don’t have anything.

We haven't loss to a non-power 5 team at home by 18 points since at least the early 90's or mid 80's. Literally this is the worst team effort that Iowa State fans have been subjected to in 30 years.

Also someone named Melvin Ejim that blossomed into an absolute stud under Freddy.

Sorry, I'm lost because I probably haven't found what's being discussed earlier in this thread. Why are we talking about Diante Garrett, Kane, Ejim, etc. blossoming under Fred? We don't have one player on the current team half as talented as those guys...so there's nothing to compare.

He was hired in June of 2015. He couldn't get anyone worth a damn that late. So, no, he couldn't have some third year guys ready to go.

His first recruiting class wasn't all that good, so that is hurting him and he'll pay for that. Luckily, his second recruiting class was fairly solid and the third one is excellent.
