He will set an unbelievable example in the room. And he has a lot of potential. Could be one of those kids that Dresser turns into a really good college wrestler. He was on the junior world team. 2x Fargo AA. He recently won preseason nationals I believe..

Does he project to be at 197? The staff is stockpiling the heavier weights with Sherry and Shapiro included in this class as well.

Thanks! Where he projects is my question as well. I thought I read he was wrestling in the 80s but I’m not sure how old that article is. Sounds like he’s a 97lber from what you all posted.

Love the fact that KD is stocking the room with these Iowa kids. Sprinkle in some blue chippers and we are on our way.

A few other things outside of he will give up a spladle easily.

Yes, he gave up a spladle at the state tourney. Kid from my town pinned him with it in 1:51. Hagen would go on to the finals and get tech'd by nationally ranked Slade Sifuentes.

Not exactly sure.

That was the second time it happened by Hagen that year. DeJongs weak part is mat wrestling. Great on his feet but struggles on the bottom to get out from more athletic wrestlers.

Figured he struggled a little bit with mat wrestling, since his FS/Greco results are more impressive than his folkstyle results (which are still solid). Plenty of time to work on that though. Another impressive get for this staff.

Wrestling newbie here.
Why doesn't a kid like Sifuentes end up at a DI program?
He is also getting a chance to play football at Wartburg, and the small town college feel in Waverly is really good. With wrestling and its lack of scholarship money a lot of other factors come into these decisions for pretty much any wrestler that isn't top 10 in their class.

Not four. Can't beat the kid in front of him, not sure if he's a senior or junior. Sam cook beat him this weekend I was told.
Fank was the second seed at that weight in the last championship for D3. Lefever was the #1, and was two time D3 outstanding wrestler. That said Fank was somewhat disappointing losing twice by a total of 2 points to take 5th. The silly thing about D3 wrestling is no team outside of Wartburg and Augsburg has won a team title since 1994. Almost a quarter of a century of sharing the title between those two.

He could have. Probably for little to no scholarship money but instead he will get mat time and likely start at Wartburg for 4 years.

Think of him like a football walk on. Play at a D3 or potentially be a backup at a D1. It isn't a whole lot different than that.

Not saying anything for/against Fank. Slade's uncle was telling me that he was getting worked up because he couldn't beat the one in front of him, assuming it's Fank since that's what you said. Mentioned he had quit football during the season also.

Impressive. He was also a stud baseball player whom probably could have tried that in college at some level. He would have been a similar "non-blue chipper" who wouldn't have had much scholly $$ at D1 destinations. If he loves FB & wrestling Wartburg is a great opportunity for him.
