Heard back the other day from the acquisitions editor that signed me up for a bunch of encyclopedia entries that I submitted last October.

I expected a really strenuous editing and revision process because that's her reputation. Instead, she sent a note saying they found extra money in the budget and would like to send me $50 for my work (which is $50 more than I was supposed to see).

That was nice. They sent out a request for author biographies this morning with word that the deadline is tight, so I did that right away. Sounds like publication might be imminent.

Now someone can read my encyclopedia work and say "Huh, anyone really can do this."

If you start talking about stuff you pull out of your rear I might actually listen to a small town, Northern Iowa wrestling broadcast. "Looks like last night's corn didn't fully digest". Is this on an iheart radio station?

Ok, not literally my rear and it is streamed over the internet. I have caught myself rambling at times and once asked myself, while talking, what the heck am I talking about. When you know most of the kids pretty well, you can really get rolling on the color commentary. One time we started making fun of a spectator who took his shoes off and started reading the paper.

I decided to listen to Stanz and Fitz podcast this morning even though it was going to be clearly much longer than my commute. I got to the ramp and realized that I had forgotten my work ID which gets me in the ramp. Not a huge deal, I can get by for a day without my ID - until I realize I forgot my work keys as well (ID and keys were together). I can make it through a day without one or the other, but definitely not both so I turned around and headed back home. When I finally got back to work I entered the ramp and the podcast ended right on cue.

I probably should have picked a 10 minute podcast to listen to this morning so my commute would have been a lot shorter.

Reminds me of the time in Wichita that I got all the way to my desk at work only to realize I left my laptop at home. I had a half hour one way commute so I spent the first hour and a half of my day driving back and forth.

I left my cellphone home today and it has my RSA token for this new client. I'm going to have to drive home at lunch and get it.

Yeah, 30 minutes is my commute. Luckily the reverse commute against traffic was much less this morning.

We have a fitness room in our building. Last winter I came in early one day to work out at 6:00. Once I got here, I realized that I had left my security card at home and there's no public access until 7:00. I ended up going to a coffee shop and sat there eating donuts for an hour instead.

I remember setting out a nice, reasonable schedule for this project with tons of time to edit each one. Then the allergy thing blew up my summer and fall, and we figured out the cause 2 weeks before this was due.

I managed to crank out a first draft for all 5 entries I signed up for and got them in on time. I am way beyond stunned that they haven't hit me up to revise anything in there. It was decent, but seemed like it needed work to me.

Based upon the quality of the editing by major news organizations these days, I'm guessing that if you spelled your name correctly they are probably OK with it.

I'm hoping that encyclopedias do care a bit more about their editing than that. That being said, you do seem to really care about the quality of your writing from both an informational and readability standpoint. Maybe you are just that good.

Forgot my DOD CAC card a few times and had to u-turn it around for the double commute. I could get in past the security guards if someone escorted me but pretty much couldn't do anything since my computer and access from any other was all CAC read dependent.

Granted they get their forecast from Ed Wilson of WHO, the Hawkeye channel. I can see maybe making the mistake one day, but most of the readers must have just figured it was on par for Rag quality and didn't bother to inform them. Either that or global warning deniers were in for a sharp dose of reality.

I'm sure they were just using the Rankine scale. That was an unseasonably bitter, cold day in November with a high of about -16 F.
