Kansas State was better than I thought. Bruce Weber I thought coached a helluva game. They really controlled the tempo. Donovan Jackson's off night was telling.

Our 1st half play I thought was very good. Give credit to Dean Wade and Kansas State. They are damn good!

Need 15-20 points a game from Jackson for this team to be successful. Lack of senior leadership is very evident. Brase helps when he is on the floor, but Jackson needs to step up. You can see the potential in our young players, but they need more help right now.

A lot of us said we would enjoy watching how the team will improve as the year developed. That was our expectation...low as that might be. This was the first Big 12 game for a lot of these guys. They WILL improve. But patience is needed. There will probably be a lot of nights like this one this year. But this team may also surprise us when we least expect it too.
Brase didn't play...our most experience player, DJ, was MIA tonight. 3 pt shooting was horrible. They shot their freethrows like I do. Poorly. Defense could have been better. Lots to improve on. Learning experience.

I'm not going to overreact to one bad game where KState players couldn't miss. Obviously we sucked, but this team still has potential.
While I agree I must say KSU hit wide open, uncontested shots. Anyone in this conference will hit those. We hadn’t given up that many wide open looks in a long time as well as far too many drives all the way to the basket. We didn’t appear willing to give the effort tonight.

Monday will be telling, but it’s disappointing to have this occur for our conference home opener. Get out-scrapped, out-hustled, & out -worked by a Bruce Webber team. Was hoping we had worked thru these types of lapses, but not the case yet with our inexperience.

I am not too surprised by this outcome. Kansas State came in focuse and re-energized off of Christmas break, Iowa State looked like they'd rather still be on break. No energy, no defense, and no consistency. That will break you every time against a fundamentally sound team like KSU. Not to mention down a couple guys that will regularly contribute in Big 12 play this season, and D Jax having probably (hopefully) his worst game of the season.

Overall, a decent measuring stick. Iowa State is probably a bottom 3 team in the league this year, and K-State is probably in the 5-8 range. I don't think we are as bad as we played tonight, but I also don't see their top 3 players scoring 70+ points on 80% shooting combined on a nightly basis.

That was humbling and embarrassing. Sorry for those of you trying to polish that turd. It's fine. It's the rebuilding year we all thought it would be. We will still have some good moments this year and be a good team next year.
They are 9-3 with one conference game under their belt. There is a whole conference season where these players can improve inspite of the coaching flaws. If you think a few talented players next year is going to fix what’s wrong your going to be disappointed.

It was lost a bit because the game was still tight, but with about 3 min left in the first half KSU got second chance buckets on 4/5 possessions, including 3 threes. This team rebounds like garbage and had to shoot 70% to hang with a mediocre team.

Wigginton takes a lot of shots early in the shot clock that he could get any time. Not necessarily terrible shots but you should be able to get something better.

Just enjoy the fun times and the glimpses of the future. This is what a rebuild looks like. There will be some fun games along the way.

We outrebounded them by 2, but yeah, some of that type of stuff hurts more than usual when you have a really new team that isn't sharp in most phases yet.

For how many times the staff has said we need to score in transition, we sure don’t seem to push the ball all that much.

I will say K State took away our open shooters off of dribble drive. We did not have many catch & shoot 3’s off dribble penetration. Dared us to drive & finish or drop off passes for 2’s. Our 3 attempts came off dribbling, which are lower % shots & our % finishing at the rim or in the lane was not great & we missed FT’s when fouled too. ****, Webber actually had a strategy.

Have you ever heard Brice Weber coach against us in Hilton on a missed basket? He is screaming for his team' to get back and I mean screaming. His teams are pretty good about limiting transition points. His guys were unconscious tonight.

Sad to say that Jackson looked like a child in a man’s game tonight. While the list of team deficiencies was lengthy and widespread, I wonder if we wouldn’t be better off sitting Jackson and letting Lewis develop his game.

I had the same thought, but overall the entire team seemed to be in a bit of a Christmas coma. So, we’ll have to see what happens the next game.
