Many have pointed out that the DB Williams was early on the play. I agree that he was probably about one step early. I don't believe, however, that he purposely tried to avoid contact. I have to give Diggs more credit than he is getting for avoiding the tackle. The end zone camera angle from behind the DB shows how the play was developing from the DB's perspective. The ball and Diggs are both angling toward the sideline. Williams was clearly trying to keep Diggs from getting out of bounds after he catches the ball and he takes an angle that normally would have accomplished this. Diggs makes a last second adjustment to stop going for the ball as it nears the sideline. Instead he goes up more vertically and reaches for the ball. In doing so, he avoids the diving tackle attempt and manages to continue on for the TD.

Diggs did jump at sort of an odd angle considering his momentum. No excuse for Williams to drop his head like that, though. You don't take your eyes out of the play.

I think he (Williams) just got caught in no man’s land and either panicked or couldn’t decide exactly what he wanted to do.

Still shaking my head this morning. Quite possibly the greatest NFL play I have ever seen. Am too young to remember the immaculate reception...

A Jags vs Vikings SuperBowl is possible.

Going to take a hardcore fan to get excited about that turd sandwich

Sign me up.

I'm guessing the league is rooting for New England and Minnesota. The Pats are a draw no matter what, and the Vikings playing as the home team is very marketable. The Jags are the least desirable team from a viewership standpoint, and a NE/Philly game is a little too regional.

That said, it's the Super Bowl. It will get massive numbers no matter who is in it.

He still had to make the tackle in bounds which was not a given. Diggs almost went out of bounds on his own anyway and would have left the Viking with about a 47 yarder for the win.

There was zero chance of Diggs getting tackled in bounds. That was either going to be a catch with a game winning FG attempt (miss) or PI.

A huge contingent of VIkings fans who have been waiting for a long time to see this?
Jags fans who have never seen it?
No freaking Tom Brady?

Might be the best Super Bowl ever!

I think the ratings would be better for this Super Bowl than Patriots vs Eagles, since so many people are sick of the Patriots and Tom Brady. Also, the Eagles would be considered sacrificial lambs without their starting QB.

Patriots vs Vikings would probably be the best ratings getter though.

I missed the Immaculate Reception. Figured the game was over and walked away just to hear my dad yell.
This is the last play at the old Met in Bloomington. I nearly hit my head on the ceiling I jumped so high.

The Vikes were at their own 20 on the play before that with about 15 seconds left. They did a pass and lateral to get into position to make that final play.

Disagree, he was a long ways from the sideline when he caught the ball. If Williams just lets him catch it and tackles him along with the trail defender there's a pretty good chance he's not getting to the sidelines. Just look at this picture, he's still in the air here, but on the way down and a long ways from the sideline with defenders in front and behind (if we live in a world where Williams just tackles him as he catches it of course).

Side note: This picture is ******* awesome.
