Favorite board games!

One of the things that kinda sucks as a parent is that you look forward to a day when your kid can play the more complex games with you, and by the time that happens, they usually don't want to spend a whole lot of time with you

I am in a situation where I have an 8 and 10 year old to play games with, but my 18 month old wants to trash the board and eat all the pieces!!! Ticket to Ride train pieces apparently look delicious!

Quadropolis - Plenty of strategy but easy to get

Zooloretoo - Easy for my non gamer friends to get into

Prosperity - Fun and Easy rules. Plenty of strategy to think about though

From an oldster....when our kids brought friends home from college we found games a great way to connect. Makes conversation easy. Then when they got married, they loved game night again. Adult kids are a blast. Now I've got grandkids, and I'm back to Hi Ho Cherry O, and Old Maid...lol

We've made it past the Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, Hi HO Cheerio days again - hallelujah!!!
It's fun teaching them the more advanced games now. One son is so hooked on board games that he & his wife & four daughters already have a collection to rival ours. They taught us Sushi-Go last time we visited them, along with some other fun games for the elementary school age.

That gives me hope. My 19 year old is just about done with online classes and getting ready to move out. I suppose the nice thing is that we can still play computer games together online through Steam and Xbox Live.

I've played Liars Dice once or twice and I loved it.

Mexican Train (domino game) is one we play at family gatherings. We've had 11 year olds play. Easy to learn and do but there is strategy if you want to be good!

Getting off topic, but if you are really into card games, Trix is a really fun one to play. It has to be exactly four players (everyone by themselves) and can take awhile, but it's really great!

I was going to say this as well. My wife's family loves it, and I'm pretty good at it when you constantly play. but when you take time off, it takes a while for your brain to re-adjust to it. There is a Set Jr. that we have gotten multiple nephews that is just 2x2.

We're not actually in Ankeny, but it's an easy drive. Wouldn't mind a round robin of hosting, but y'all would have to drive to eastern Story County.

I have a kid working on a PhD in Physics. It is a grad student main occupation. He is far from home though. He plays things like Go (too hard for me lol) and total nerd D & D. But he is great to have around especially when you play a complex new game to figure out how to play.
