Mille Bornes is also a really fun card game that's easy to pick up, and fun for all ages. Try to score points (miles) while hitting your opponents with things like flat tires, accidents, run out of gas.

Fake Hitler and Spyfall are two fun, easy games that aren't too in depth and good for parties with more people who want to play.

Catan, Puerto Rico, and Risk are all my type of games.

This is a good one. There's a family friendly version as well.

Like Pictionary, but when you are done you pass it to the person next to you. They guess, and the next person after them has to draw what they guessed, etc. When it gets back around to you you get to see how well everyone guessed and drew and if you're even close to the original word/phrase. Bonus points for when the word is particularly filthy.

We have the regular version of this and it was a hit at Christmas. Laughing till we cried! Great for age 8 and up, and the more players the better. We bought the version for up to 12 players. As a side note: If you play the regular version with friends and add alcohol, there is no need to purchase the "after dark" version...Ha!

Has anyone played Concept, Love Letter, or Coup? These are all games we have thought about picking up.

We don't have many friends who are into board games so it's hard to get into a lot of them as most require 3+ to be fun.

Love Letter is a great game and a no brainer IMO as the basic game is only $10. It's not a great 2 player game, but I have found it's one of the few games almost anyone can get in to. It's simple and relatively quick.

I own concepts. Its like charades with pictures. You place cubes next to icons on a board to try to get people to guess whats on your card. For example if your card was water you might place a cube next to the water icon and the blue color icon. Honestly we hardly ever play it as a competitive game. We just go around the table with everyone trying to guess and not keeping score.

I have not played coup but heard it's fun.

I was just about to say we only have the original version and it always turns to be adult themed quickly. Our friends just picked up After Dark so interested to see how "adult" it is.

Blokus and Blokus Trigon strike the right balance for our family between easy enough for kids, requires strategic thinking, and has an element of screw your neighbor.

I'm still stuck in the same situation as I was when I was a kid- no one to play them with. My wife actually likes board games, but she doesn't enjoy complexity and I do, so we don't play very much at all.

Husband was a provincial chess champion. He could probably beat me in chess in two minutes blindfolded. Fortunately the kids are old enough and smart enough to give him a challenge.

We enjoy Seven Wonders and got the Duel version of it at Christmas for when just a couple of people can play.

Power Grid is also a fun game.

Coup is a fun, quick game. Involves bluffing, and trying to strategically take action against other people. Plus there's a built in action requirement, so no games of people trying to sit idle for too long. Game of 4 people probably takes 10-20 mins on average at most.

That's one of the games we have in our travel bag (basically, a men's toiletry bag that can be tucked into a carry-on). When we travel we throw it in...keeps you entertained on layovers in airports and on long flights. The bag has morphed in the past few years since we no longer have to worry about multi-players when we're on the road. :)

We play it at most game nights - when we have kids around we have to be careful to keep it PC at times. ;)

Would anyone be interested in a CF game night periodically? I think that would be fun as we don't know many who play board games, my wife and I would be in.

I know hiphopp is in Ankeny near me.
If there's no upper age limit, pretty sure PapaLew & I would be interested. ;)

Sounds like fun to me. Question would be if the Mrs would want to come or if we could get a babysitter for the little dude.

Mille Bornes is great. We used to play it a lot as a family when I was a kid. I remember the first time I swore in front of my parents, we were playing Mille Bornes. I messed up and I said the S word real loud. Then I backtracked and said, "I mean shoot".

Agree on 7Wonders and the Duel version(also just got it for Christmas). In the same vein I would suggest SushiGo as, IMO, it's the "Entry Level" version of 7Wonders with the passing cards and deciding what to play/keep concepts. I would definitely start with that if the OP is look for easier strategy. Then they can move up to 7Wonders if they want something more complicated later on.

Agreed. I left 7 Wonders (which is a fantastic game) off of my longer recommendation list due to I think a family of kids to elderly, only familiar with charades and junk at Walmart, would be very overwhelmed with it. Sushi Go (or Sushi Go Party) and Between Two Cities are better entry passing/building games.
