I hope this kills a lot of the amateurism rules that exist. A player should be able to sign with an agent while he is in school, they should be able to get loans, they should be able to sell their autograph or jersey, they should be able to do anything any other student would be allowed to do.
If you also let kids go to the pros right after highschool you probably do away with a lot of the really big payments. I think the NBA should move to accepting HS kids and then build up their Gleague to handle young kids better. Have mentors or something that can help these kids develop and mature. It is such a joke that the NCAA tries to treat these kids like they are student athletes when everyone knows that is not what is going on.

From a comment on Reddit.... NCAA Bylaw 16.01.1.1 reads "Unless otherwise noted, for violations of Bylaw 16 in which the value is $200 or less, the eligibility of the student-athlete shall not be affected conditioned upon the student-athlete's repayment of the benefit to a charity of his or her choice. The student-athlete however, shall remain ineligible from the time the institution has knowledge of receipt of the impermissible benefit until the student-athlete repays the benefit..."

This article was created for maximum clicks. The "meal" players are included to stir the pot, nothing more imo.

What I wonder about that list of “meals with students” is if these are that company or whatever sitting down and pitching there plot to the athlete and those including Monte just said thanks but no thanks and walked away.

My whole thing with the list is dates, as in they list all this information but not the dates the events happened.

I say the date of the event is important because there is nothing preventing a athlete from accepting money/loan/meal once their final season is completed. In fact a signing loan is common place when officially signing with an agent.

Can we please get the thread title changed. Its makes it sound like there is vast corruption at ISU and issue is over an $75 meal. Just like KCCI's story title, make it sound like Montie is in deep with this agent and half way through tell us it was over a meal.

Do you seriously think that the NBA would care for kids better than DI coaches do?

This. As Deadspin stated in this perfect article (https://deadspin.com/who-gives-a-****-1823260537), Yahoo Sports (Thamel specifically) are the cops of sports media and love reporting s*** like this instead of going after the actual problem, which is the NCAA.

I hope Monté has the receipt with his credit card number and signature on it.
