Coach Cal is one Anthony Davis bag man away from being very underachieving at Kentucky.

I don't understand why Cal doesn't recruit many true guards. I get that he loves long and athletic players but the last couple years Kentucky has been a very average team if they can't get to the rim or back door their opponent with lobs. They have one shooter on a team full of blue chip players. I tip my cap to K-State though, Kentucky got away with a lot last night and they still found a way to win.

I totally thought this was cowgirl fawning over Ashley Judd and I was a little weirded out but now I see there are multiple impersonators. What happened? She get banned?

Yes, she is on a forced sabbatical. Home contemplating the meaning of life, the universe and everything.

Can confirm she probably fully supports me in my Ashley Judd consoling efforts. ;)

The following is a cart-before-horse observation ... I’m trying to stay ahead of the curve and raise a few eyebrows (while attempting to wedge as many idioms into one sentence as possible :)).

@HoopsTournament can verify/dispute/augment, as necessary.

Big 8/Big 12 could advance four teams to the Elite 8. That would be unprecedented for the conference(s), if I’m not mistaken.

If three teams reach E8, it’d be only the 3rd such occurrence, IIRC.(**)
1988: #1Oklahoma, #4Kansas State, #6Kansas …. (KU def. KSU in Elite 8, then def. OU in title game).
2003: #1Texas, #1Oklahoma, #2Kansas … (From that point, in succession, OU, UT and KU each lost to Syracuse. SU also beat OSU in second round — four wins vs. one league on path to title; still seems bizarre).
(** I’m not counting 2010; three current members made it that season, but WVU was still in Big East).

I really thought KSU was the least likely to advance. WVU could beat Villanova if the refs let them get physical on defense. If the refs let them play how they want, I think they could beat anyone. If they get the KSU refs, they'll be down to 4 players in the first half.

4 in the Elite 8 would be crazy considering how most of the conference seemed to be limping into the tourney with injuries and peaking in February.

Going into conference play it looked like the Big 12 had 7 locks and 2-3 bubble teams. I genuinely think if ISU had avoided injuries that all 10 teams could have made the tournament if they played in another power conference, the RPI was in 70s after non-conf. Given our injuries though I still think 9 of our 10 teams would be in if they played a B10, ACC, Big East or Pac schedule with so many more easy wins available.

Given that OK State was one of the hottest teams in this league late in the year...pretty poor decision to leave them out.

This guy's reply was a few spots below the top -- the voice of reason:

So your conspiracy theory is that the refs fouled out half the K-State rotation in an effort to ensure that a 65% free throw shooter would get 20+ free throws?

You understand how stupid that conspiracy sounds right? In a game where UK dug themselves a huge hole to start the game, and then followed it up with an 8 minute field goal drought... you are trying to blame the refs for free throws and fouling out K-State's team?

That must have taken a couple whole rolls of tin foil to come up with that conspiracy. That's some pizza-gate, lizard people, Elvis is still alive crap right there.
