Some great indie concerts coming up this summer/fall:

- This Friday - Lake Street Dive at Nitefall on the River
- Pixies in July at Hoyt Sherman
- Pretty much all of Hinterland lineup
- The Record Company at Wooly's late summer
- Shakey Graves at Nitefall on the River in September, Gov't Mule also

I know they both have a mix of styles but isn’t Hinterland more country and 515 more indie?

I assumed you meant 80-35 instead of 515?? Also in general anymore the term indie is pretty loosely used. Most of the artist at Hinterland are also indie as in not major label.

I wonder how the pixies will hold up. I like them, but I feel like they might decline

I posted this in the Hinterland thread but I do have 2 tickets I need to sell for it as I am going to now be in a wedding that weekend. They are for both days w/ camping and a parking pass. PM me and I am sure we can work out a good deal.

Sorry, massive quote bomb incoming!

Digging these guys! Madisen Ward is great too!

They are just so COOL. And I like their new stuff. I really like a lot of new blues/soul/funk type of stuff. I do also really enjoy Madisen Ward!

I know they both have a mix of styles but isn’t Hinterland more country and 515 more indie?

Great question! Here's how I would break down the big three Iowa festivals:

Hinterland: indie, mostly tinged with alt-country and folk. I HATE regular country, so Dwight Yoakum last year was not my jam, but Nathaniel Rateliff will be there this year, Band of Horses, etc. It tends to be a very mellow feel.

80/35: Indie, more upbeat and/or eclectic. Tends to be a wider variety, and I feel like it's sort of more pop-ish (but still indie).

515: Electronic/dance/dubstep/house/etc. Bring your glow sticks!

I wonder how the pixies will hold up. I like them, but I feel like they might decline

I'm hopeful. No Kim Deal, which sucks, but I'm hoping they can still get that angst.

Per usual, you're the best!

Aw, man - my pleasure! :) You're pretty awesome yourself.

Caught A Perfect Circle in Omaha on Tuesday. Incredibly surprised how awesome Maynard sounded. The venue (Baxter Arena) had great sound, and the show itself was really good. Got free tickets to Red Jumpsuit Apparatus at Vaudville Mews and I could really care less about this show. End the school year with David Byrne June 5th, and I'd say it should be a good start to the summer.

My concert lineup so far this year:

3/20 - Buckethead
3/22 - Pennywise, Strung Out
4/26 - Papa Roach, Nothing More
4/27 - Kevin Smith (Hollywood Babble On podcast taping)
5/16 - Breaking Benjamin, 10 Years
5/29 - Stone Temple Pilots
6/27 - Matthew Sweet
7/29 - Godsmack, Shinedown
8/7 - Melvins

I really wanted to see A Perfect Circle in Omaha, but couldn't get it to work out. Was really surprised there were so many tickets left the week of the show. Maynard is great...I'm a huge fan of everything he does.

It was absolutely empty there. I was super surprised. I made the comment that, although they may be a big band, I don't think they gained any new fans with their latest album. There were almost no younger folks at the concert. I would say everyone I saw was 30+.

That’s funny. I saw Jack White at Baxter Arena last month and was shocked by how many old people were there too. It wasn’t empty but not sold out by any means either. It was the first time I had been there and was expecting a bigger venue so we were a little surprised to see how small it was.

Oops. Yeah I meant 80/35. I guess when I hear indie I think indie rock as a genre.

Really chapped I didn't know he was playing so close. They still had some ads up at this show. Saw Jack White at Lolla a few years back and he was incredible.

What I have planned right now:
-Cole Swindell, June 22nd @ Stir Cove (Council Bluffs)
-Joe Bonamassa, August 7th @ The Orpheum Theatre (Omaha)

Not really summer but also going to:
-Henrik Freischlader Band, October 1st @ Rockhouse Bar (Salzburg)
-Gary Clark Jr., November 7th @ The Orpheum Theatre (Omaha)

There are several other Stir Cove shows I’d like to get to (Dropkick Murphys, Barenaked Ladies & Better than Ezra, O.A.R., Counting Crows & Live...). FYI - Stir Cove is a great little venue if you ever find yourself in Council Bluffs.

I’d also would like to find a way to see Foo Fighters in Wrigley Field... probably a very long shot for me this year unfortunately
