We've got 3 scholarships right for 2019? I can't see any downside to taking this kid. I think with how Prohm invests in kids he could really bring this guy along.
Agree, Bryce. I think our roster is stocked and has enough scholarships in the next couple years that a guy like this is easily worth taking. Upside seems big. Downside is pretty small. He comes in and is either injured or not able to play at the right level, he goes somewhere else.

Yeah hate to tell ya but Liddell, Weems, Tandy, Lewis, Williamson aren't all coming to Iowa State. We'd be pretty dang lucky to get one of them.
Agreed. My main wants from this class are Liddell and Tandy, but I am not expecting those two to fall in our lap. After that I am not all in on anyone.

If we got those two, say, we'd have an unbelievable 4 man with a versatile game, and a combo guard that can fill it up from all over. If Leech is the 3rd and final part of that group, its a home run class having a wing player like him IMO.

But again, all speculative and very unlikely.

I don’t think taking this kid is nearly as low risk/downside as a lot of people are making it out to be.

From the limited highlight films I have seen Leech is a top 50ish player, but to your point that play is from over a year ago. We really don't know even what the injury is or how it has affected him.
There is risk with any recruit, right now today i view Leech as the Lard/Conditt type of projection. Both had risk (academic/size) which were risks for long term gain and weren't expected to be a major contributor as a freshman. Lard is realizing that projection and I hope Conditt will too. That IMO is a good use of one of the last few scholarships.
The possibility does exist that Leech is fully recovered though and can contribute immediately from day one is there. Only him, his doctors and the staff who have maintained contact would have a good idea on the likely hood of that. If a commitment is announce soon i'll trust the staff is confident that ML is recovered on a track to play day one and the staff may have gotten another underrated steal. Added aspect to lower there risk of taking Leech this spring as others have said 3 scholarships today could easily be 5 next spring for a verity of reasons.

I’ll stick with people I think we have a realistic shot with. Mario McKinney, Malik Wilson, Kira Lewis, KyKy Tandy, Tyrell Terry, Luke Anderson, Tyler Wahl are all guys we’ve been linked with that I’d rather have.

We might have a realistic shot with these guys. Even at 50% hit rate that's basically 4 guys. Like others have said, we're probably going to have 5 scholarships open. There is an opportunity cost, and I am very happy with Prohm's recent recruiting, but let's be honest we're never going to get 50% of our top targets.

We not Iowa. We don't play 15 deep. If he don't work out. He can our 15th man coming off the bench. If we works out like his original projection, we just got a huge steal. Using one Schollarship on a possible huge upside guy is what it might take to get us the next level. If this kid ends up being top 25 talent and his injuries are behind him. We will be loaded. Like I said earlier. We have possibly 5 scholarships to fill. Wigginton going pro, we always have one transfer. Then 3 unused one. We can take a flyer and be ok.

Looks like there have been different reports on what his injury was and how severe it was. Some say stress fracture, some say compound fracture. Saw he was also kicked off his HS team this year.
I can't find anything about him getting kicked off of any team. Doing a search, there is a link to Reddit about recruiting. The summary mentions Leech and later in the summary it mentions "kicked off the team". However, the kicked off the team thing was about Austin Nichols at UVA. It may be true but I can't find anything about it.

Way up there
I don't mind bringing Leech in but there is a bit of a risk. With NWB, Shayok and LW likely gone, the most known commodity in the backcourt for 19/20 is Nixon. I like THT, Haliburton and Lewis but they are still unproven and would leave little depth behind them even if they do step up this season. That means its likely that one of the guards from this class is going to need to have an instant impact. If Leech isn't healthy, the 19/20 backcourt could suffer.

I swear we are always on players who are out of the social media game. It's refreshing but all I want to do is hear what the twittersphere has to say about this potential commitment.

Despite every urge I have to fight it, I agree. I'm afraid the reasons could simply be that I feel a need to be validated or I'm just a glutton for punishment of some sort.
