Not sure why people disagree with losing to two top 20 teams. Pretty optimistic to predict those as wins right now.

Good teams and Prohm does tend to start awfully slowly. Our offense is likely really rough during this tournament.
The likely opponents still do more for our noncon schedule than anything the last few years. It's still a big win and life goes on.

But you know how we are about predicting losses around here.

Thanks for noting my error about UNI/Drake. I got my seasonal rotations for in-state opponents confused for some reason. Corrected in my post.

Edit: I also had the expected sequence of Iowa/Big 4 reversed. Also corrected.

Arizona is a good first draw. A game they should win. But I would rather face Duke next than Gonzaga. They have talent and experience while Duke has talent but lacks experience.

My way too early prediction would have us winning a close game against Arizona. Lard on Chase Jeter will be a match up to watch inside or maybe you body him up with Solomon? I just quickly peaked at Arizona's grad transfer additions... they don't seem to be major impact guys, but likely solid additions for the situation Arizona was in. Player profiles below.

Edit: In case anyone's looking and gets confused (like I did originally), they got a "grad transfer" from Cornell who is sitting out the 2018-2019 season and will have a final year of eligibility left after that. He was their big catch on the transfer market this spring but is essentially a sit 1, play 1. 6'8" forward who averaged 17, 7, and 3 at Cornell last year shooting 37% from three and 83% from the line.

Agree with you on rather facing Duke than Gonzaga for those exact reasons.

Way up there
Beating Arizona would be big, that would guarantee two other NCAA tourney teams. Two wins of any kind would be huge come March. This tourney is going to get a lot of hype with the new format, it should be great exposure for the program.

Im assuming with this, our non-con schedule will be released today/tomorrow. Both KU and KSU have already released theirs.

Additional response: the rest of the non-league slate is going to be heavily cupcake. Already have the home/away return game vs. Mizzou, a loaded Maui field, road games vs. Iowa and Ole Miss in Big 12/SEC. I'd love to see a surprise non-dud matchup at Hilton vs. opponent with a pulse in addition to those, but I don't expect it.

Will Lard not play due to "coaches decision" (Ie. suspended) for a few games at the beginning of the year? If so, will he be back by this game?

Not that it matters at all, but one of the first things that I noticed about our matchup was that it is on ESPNU. All of the other quarterfinal games are on ESPN2

I don't think he's done anything to warrant a suspension unless something happened and he and the staff have managed to keep a lid on it. Right now he's enrolled in a wellness center trying to make some self improvements. No reason to think he won't be good to go when the season starts.

Didn't Arizona lose a commitment from Shaq's kid due to the ESPN report about Ayton? If that is never proven, can they sue ESPN? Sure seems like it screwed them over

Totally an outsider looking in, but if anyone gives a benefit of a doubt and a chance to restart the clock it seems to be coach Prohm. Hopefully this wellness center helps Lard get his act together.

I think that is the case also....but he was in a bar underage after the season - maybe a game for that? - and has missed all of summer (but not the only one). I will be interesting to see if he is day one starter or has to work his way back.
