This comment makes me think coach has the best job in the world...

“I’ve always said this, ‘You’re either somebody in this profession whose trying to either be somebody or trying to do something.’

My guess is we'll hear something more definitive from CMC later this fall. Otherwise the cloud of uncertainty will cause some of our 2019 commits to de-commit and start shopping around as they approach the December signing date.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Pollard make a bold move to enhance CMC and his assistants' compensation even more than what he recently did - not a lifetime contract, but something bold in that direction. Pollard knows football is King and he's in love with this coaching staff because they stand for everything that's right in this world. Who knows, maybe Pollard will use some of the 15 million from the field naming rights to do this.

He's just getting started. The underclassmen are impressive and every year, they just keep getting more so. As a competitive person and a winner, I don't see how he walks away from something just as it's getting the wheels rolling. And for what? Money and recruits who want to play for you because of the name on the jersey?

Gotta believe Campbell is more than that, as he stated and as his track record indicates. He might leave, but not until he finds a ceiling.

If Iowa state gets to where I think we are heading under Campbell he may be able to name his next job regardless of who is currently holding the position.

Apparently many of the reporters did not bother to research the story on how CMC came to Ames. Seemed the biggest factor was the personal relationship with Pollard and CMC’s wife urging him to go to the meeting. I imagine at the end of this season Jamie will sit down with CMC and his wife and they’ll talk. Speculation as to where CMC is at until that point is meaningless. Would respect Randy Peterson more if he made that point after actually thinking about it. The school will not matter if tOSU is not available it could be Notre Dame or any of the others including NFL. I’m hoping CMC talks to Jamie, banks a few more million, and decides not to talk to anyone else.

Perfect answer. It sucks that (assuming Meyer is fired) this is going to be brought up ad nauseum by local and national media all season long if the program keeps winning, but that's life with a coach who is in demand. Beats all hell out of a coach who nobody else wants.

If Matt stays and brings ISU to a perennial top 25 team he will have a statue in front of the stadium, even if he just maintains the tOSU level he still might get fired in 5 years for losing to Michigan.
Idk, tOSU is kinda like the Pittsburgh Steelers in that it seems like they don't want to Fire their coaches unless they absolutely have to. They've had 4 (not counting the interim year) coaches since 1979, and 5 coaches since 1951! They would get the coach they want and give them the tools to be successful, IMO.

Obviously, if you go under or around .500 you are going to be on the hot seat, but it is pretty difficult to do that at tOSU.

The key part of his statement:

“I think a lot of you guys know me. I think a lot of you guys know what I stand for,” Campbell said. “I’ve always said this, ‘You’re either somebody in this profession whose trying to either be somebody or trying to do something.’ I think really over the last two and a half years, I’ve proven that my whole sole mission is to be here and to do something.”

IMO he's here to build his own Mt. Union type of program. Other than double his salary and be closer to family, there is nothing to build or do in Columbus....just maintain. We have a great state, a great town, a great campus, a great environment, and finally enough of a of a budget to be competitive. There's no better place in the country to raise a family.

Unfortunately, this won't stop the chatter because media people need something to talk about and opposing coaches will be using it as a weapon in recruiting circles.

^ This.

It's to bad CMC is so classy because I'd have pulled his credentials since CMC just told him he's not engaging in that conversation.

Well, that's the thing....CMC is class and handled it VERY respectfully.

My favorite part was is he basically said "I know you're doing your job....and a bunch of you texted me and tried to get info"

Pretty soon those reporters that have that type of access (texting, off record type stuff) will get silence back.

If OSU job opens up MC is going to find out quickly how annoyingly insecure this fan base really is.

Just because a lot of us believe we can never have nice things, the refs are always out to get us, and we are always millimeters away from getting kicked in the junk does not mean we are insecure. Paranoid? Yep. Insecure? Ok...well yeah maybe you have a point.

In all seriousness though, I am not worried about when Campbell leaves. I think when he does, it will be a lot like the Fred situation. He will be leaving the program in a much better place than what he found it and it will be set up for immediate success giving the person following him every opportunity to build on the foundation he built. He has always stated his vision is bigger than wins and losses in the current football season. It's culture, in and around the program. Changing expectations. Changing the standards we are measured against. He sees Iowa State very differently than a lot of outsiders do (which is why it still blows their mind he even came here.) He clearly sees Iowa State very differently than a lot of Iowa State fans do too, which is a very very good thing. He's in the process of building a program that can sustain success, both while he is here, and long after he's gone.

What are the odds of losing two great head coaches to the same university for the same reason. Hot tempers and violence. Like a zillion to 1?
