I just got an ESPN alert on my phone saying 'Ex-Ohio State asst. Zach Smith says Urban Meyer knew about 2009 incident'

I thought that was always known that he knew about that. But that it was the 2015 incident that is in question. I don't get the point of that alert whatsoever.

Was just listening to Murph and Andy...but essentially like they said...folks put stuff in writing...now all the finger pointing happens...and then process of seeing who is lying.

I'm right with you on the cynicism boat. From a career perspective, it's probably stupid to slam the door, so I can't really blame him, but nothing about the statement told me anything. They were the necessary platitudes. But not everybody can even get those right, so credit to him for that.
What more do u want him to say when Urban is technically still the head coach of Ohio State?

Yeah, I don't think there was any debate over whether or not he knew about the 2009 incident. This is all about whether or not he knew about the 2015 incident and took any action at all. In his statement released earlier today he claims that he filed a report after finding out about the second incident, which should be pretty easy to prove or disprove. If he did then I guess congrats on doing the bare minimum, coach.

Probably already discussed in the mega "Urban M" thread, but I have a lot of concerns about negative recruiting and how it will be used against Iowa State. Every recruit will be told CMC will be gone. ..

Oh for sure.

It is kind of unfortunate. Paul Rhoads had a good early start, and then had his legs cut out from under him with 2 years of realignment putting the question out there 'will they even be a BCS (in those days) school when you graduate'. Now we have a good start and we get this potential angle. Though on this one, you know that even without the OSU thing a lot of coaches would be pushing the 'he won't stay there, no one stays at ISU' angle, so the net change may not be as big.

The AD's office and OSU lawyers did a heck of a job writing that for him.

I disagree. There is plenty in there that OSU and particularly the AD wouldn't want him to say. Essentially, he threw Gene Smith under the bus.

I think this is purely self-preservation.

It would be really cool if ISU - OSU were to meet in a Bowl Game this year :) And OSU offers CMC the week before the game, in which we blow them out, then Coach says in the post-game Presser that he declines the offer and will return to ISU..........and then my morning alarm went off :)

The best thing that I've read all day is about how Campbell's dream job might be to coach the Cleveland Browns!

Exactly. It was essentially a non answer. To paraphrase:

"No comment on anything non-Iowa State related."

But as I've stated before: It's too early. Put yourself in Ohio State's shoes. So far Campbell's gone 3-9 & 8-5 at a Power 5 school. Is that really good enough? The Buckeyes will roll with an interim coach for now then begin searching in earnest in November. If Campbell has us in the hunt for a conference championship or a January bowl game, I'd start worrying.

Also- Campbell's true dream job is bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Cleveland. If he can turn Iowa State into a consistent winner, he can make that leap to the NFL without having to go through a blue blood program first.
I hope I am worrying next year...

Urban Meyer is certainly not setting himself up to be the fall guy. Now, let's hear what Gene Smith has to say.

Zach Smith is on record saying Gene Smith knew all about the police investigating the allegations against him in 2015.

What are the odds of losing two great head coaches to the same university for the same reason. Hot tempers and violence. Like a zillion to 1?
You just killed us.

I mean, what are the odds of the officials picking up a flag on a pass interference call?

Way up there
Nothing he said really addressed anything did it? It's not like he would be leaving this month or anything, he was more or less just putting it off until after the season. We won't know anything until December.
