There are never cut and dried answers. Who would have thought Johnny would leave Michigan (after having a runner up finish recently) and go to ISU? You have Ferentz sitting at Iowa. There are others. I honestly have no idea. He could look at the situation and say, it’s kinda messy to step into with extremely high expectations still. Perfect situation if he wants it, stoops does take it and retires after 5 years after so so success.

Johnny left for $, man. He said so himself.

And respect. He went to the national championship game and still had to be in the shadow of the football program at Michigan.

And CMC is going to be more respected by a fanbase for just having decent success at ISU than if he didn't do well at OSU.

You have to win all the time at places like OSU.

Head coaches also have to be politicians about this kind of stuff, and CMC was definitely that in his interview yesterday. He definitely didn't clear the air for the future, just talked about the present.

My answer would be Because we at ISU are just a stepping stone program to bigger and better jobs.....

Why does Iowa St have to be that, though? It’s not for basketball. Campbell can make it that way and stay.

Ohio State is arguably the best job in college football. I think Campbell is happy here and won't leave for just any job, but if that job is offered to him then he's gone.

Not exactly sure.

I would say that is debatable. Since woody Hayes (not sure about before) coaches have only lasted about a decade there and they don’t seem to make it back to the big guys afterwards.

I disagree, and I have at least minor evidence from Campbell's mouth to back up my thoughts.

"I’ve always said this, ‘You’re either somebody in this profession who is trying to do something or be something.' Over the last two and a half years I’ve proven that my whole sole mission is to be here and to do something."

Going to Ohio State, he wouldn't be doing something like he's doing here with cyclONEnation. He'd be trying to be someone, another cog in the OSU coaching machine. He'd have to deal with 5-star recruits and high profile guys that may not have the same dedication and specialness that he seeks out in players now.

I honestly think he enjoys being in Ames, being doubted, and building this program from the ground up on hard work. Not to mention giving our fanbase something we've deserved for hanging around and being loyal for all the down years.

When Pandy breaks something is when I'll worry
He is occupied telling everyone what all Cyclone fans are thinking and saying even though he probably only knows a few. He also like to give the impressions that he has the inside scoop on everything (especially after something has occurred)

They are a huge brand and they basically run the midwest. I'd say it's the best job outside the SEC and maybe Clemson or Florida State

I know I'm probably going out on a limb here, but Campbell is the only coach we've had in football or basketball that I do not think we can really replace. He is extremely special and we're going to need him for a bit to keep a culture change. I love Prohm, I loved Hoiberg, but bball can be turned around much more quickly. Our history in football speaks for itself. Some good things were done, but nothing like what is ahead.

I'm happy to eat my words if he stays and ends up disappointing, but I don't see it happening. So happy about this hire.

I would be lying if I said CMC to OSU didn't cross my mind briefly when I heard the news about Meyer... I am an Iowa State fan after all. But we all just need to take a deep breath. The job isn't even open yet, and I'm sure the coaching search will not occur until after the season.

IF Meyer ends up getting canned (and I say that that is still a toss up at this point), then I will be routing for Coach Day and Ohio State for the first time in my life! If Day can win a Big X title next year maybe there won't be a coaching search after all...
