I get so sick and tired of being right all the time but this pathetic 3.36 yards/play game could be seen coming our way for the last 11 months.

It just sucks that everyone so desperately wants to blame our OL when the root cause is how easy it is to defend a QB with a weak arm, slow wind up & release, and 0 pocket mobility. Kempt at QB means there's about 3 square yards on the field for the defense to defend.

Just wait till we get more talent on the OL (wait till we get more talent...story of ISU football since 1890. All these 3 star OL recruits aren't the 1980s Redskins Hogs).

We just don't have a fan base that understands "winning because of" and "winning in spite of" (like 14-7 vs TCU), so we don't demand more on offense or think how can we move the ball.

I was a little encouraged when vs SDSU we ran a counter trey (OU's bread & butter) then on the 1st drive today we mixed in some diversity with under center sets and 12 personnel, but how quickly we revert back to Mark Mangino zone dives on 1st & 10 from 4 WR sets.

Gee why can't we block anyone?

And can we get a motion handoff to Tarique or Kene to the outside?

Campbell's offense is a bland, uncreative joke that requires a bunch of 5 star OLs.

I was wondering why we didn't hand off to Milton or Jones as well when they come in motion. We needed to get the ball out in space and let the guys make plays. With the pressure Iowa was getting we didn't have time to do much, so I don't understand why we didn't attempt any quick-hitters like the bubble screens that we usually see 20 times a game.

But ultimately this loss comes down to play calling and the o-line. We have the best RB in college football and just like last year his stats will not reflect that because the line sucks.

We could have seen this thread title approximately 50 times in the past five seasons, or at least the four before the Park-Kempt-Nolan season last year.

Yeah, I feel bad for Montgomery. 44 yards rushing after 2 weeks probably takes him out of the Heisman running.

didn't that Kempt fella who you thinks sucks so bad beat OU in Norman? And lead IS U to a very good season.

Let's see what the offense can muster against a bunch of tissue paper defenses of the Big 12.

I like the way you speak your mind and you are right about "wait til next year since 1890"...the only problem is of course, NEXT YEAR NEVER COMES......Typical ISU football...thanx for your post

You're forgetting that ISU went to it's WR in the end zone vs. TCU. Didn't happen yesterday.

I'll take a reliable defense first over anoffense trying to keep up.

Otherwise yeah the scheme was bad yesterday.

Phew now I can rest easy knowing that our o line wasn’t actually pathetic and we’re good there. That whole “winning in the trenches is the most important of the game thing”? No one that knows anything about football ever says that anymore. It’s so 1890’s.

I have no idea how average or bad our line is after that game. What i do know is the offensive gameplan, creativity and adjustments for that particular game yesterday were absolutely horrible. No misdirection, no rb screens, no bubble screens. We hear about all these blazing fast rbs and slot weapons we have and in a game where we can't move the ball we don't see any of them. We looked like we were playing scared offensively yesterday.

Raised ticket prices, HC with a big raise trying to be the OC and a first year OL coach ...

Iowa's Dline is good. Epenesa the 5 star DE dominated Foster on the left side. If I had to guess from my coaches recliner I would say CMC knew we couldn't block long enough for deep routes to develop. Manning leaving hurts I'm sure, but not like the oline was great when he was here. Got a lot of young guys on the line playing hopefully they can develop. We are lucky to have DM, because it takes a special RB to move the ball with this poor run blocking.

We should definitely fire Campbell.
Once again, putting "words in my mouth". Didn't say that at all. Expectations are higher. Offense scoring 3 points is disappointing. Everyone is recognizing the OL played poorly; first game for the OL coach contributes to that.

Iowa dfense looked like a squad that had been prepared for a very predictable performance from the day Kempt was granted eligiblity.....for 7 months or so(I'm sure I will be corrected on the exact date), they prepared for a 11 versus 10 defensive run strategy and his typical year's worth of film performance....slow delivery, no run threat, etc.....
We looked like a coaching staff that started to prepare for Iowa 5 days before with zero anticipation for original plays or creative looks. The wildcat thing at goalline was the right idea, just not finished or executed(again, coaching....like they practiced that thing 3 times on Wednesday). I would have like to have seen 8 more wildcat looks in the first three quarters.

Iowa's defense is very good, and they were preparing for us for 7 months. Move on, I guess.....

One time the announcers said that it appeared that Campbell was keeping the play calling simple to not make mistakes. But the continued throwing Montgomery at the middle of the line was so Donnie Duncan or Paul Rhodes. Drank too much kool-aid...a bit of a hangover this morning.

Let's hope for some big improvement from game 1 to game 2 this week. Not only do we have a top 5 team coming in, but it's a top 5 team that remembers the results last year.
