People seem to think we were an offensive juggernaut last year with Manning and forget about the eggs the offense laid against Texas, TCU and really UNI (2 defensive TD's).
I have to disagree. I think the QB issues for the UT game were unforseen. I think TCU was that good. You're right about UNI.

For the record I don't think we were a juggernaut last year but I did witness us score a TD (several, actually) on Iowa.

Do people not realize the same person calling plays last year is the same person calling plays this year?

To be honest, I always figured it was some Campbell and some manning. I realize what Campbell has said but let’s not pretend that he is always 100% honest.

I had hoped it was manning calling the dumb plays and Campbell calling the good ones. Saturday makes me wonder.

Campbell called the plays last year with the help of Manning and Gasser up in the box. Campbell calls the plays this year with the help of Gasser and whoever else is up in the box now with him

Plus people need to realize that this was our first game of the season. We lost to UNI in the first game in 2016, last year we beat them thanks to two defensive TD's but only outgained them by 27 yards offensively. If we were playing about anyone but Oklahoma this week I would predict a win and think we looked significantly better. That SDSU game being cancelled really hurt us IMO

I agree mostly. That cancelation was killer and everyone should have realized it.

Park vs Kempt, Game #2 at home vs on the road in Game #1, Lazard vs Lazardless.

You’re going off a one game sample in which there’s several more impactful differences than having a different collaborator on the offensive playcall.

Excuses are like hawkroach relatives. Everybody has one and they all stink.

IDGAF if it's a one game sample size. This team has to be better than 3 points versus Iowa or not only will we start 1-5, we'll finish 2-10.

Then I expect you to shut up and not complain when you are right.

Predicting 10 losses in an 11 game season is bold

This is totally fair. Which is why I'm saying here and now that I'm sad the 2018 season was the season Matt Campbell burned to;

a. figure out how to be OC/HC.

or

b. figure out he needed to hire a professional OC.

I've had a few days to stew on this.

The playcalling was boring. Now I'm not one to sit here and suggest I know everything there is about football. I have no doubt that Campbell, being an intelligent person and all, called those plays based on what he saw in the defense and the limitations he knew we had offensively. I was really left hoping for something to get a guy on the edge, either a sweep play or a screen pass or something. Honestly, I think Campbell trusted his defense and was hoping Montgomery would make one of those real special plays of his and bust a touchdown. But the lack of creativity, while I'm sure well thought out by Campbell, did become a burden to watch.

I guess I'm just not sure where I'm at on Kempt. I will say I think Lazard made him look good on several occasions last year. But we are going to really struggle if he wont throw the ball downfield. It becomes really hard to score when the defense basically ignores any portion of the field further than about 8 years from the line of scrimmage. But on the other end, we've certainly seen in the past how a reckless QB can throw us out of games before we know it. So I appreciate the fact he's trying to be responsible with the ball.

At the end of the day, I think this team is much better suited to beat Big 12 teams rather than Iowa. Our defensive will be a great asset in the Big 12, probably Top 3 in the league. And this offensive will get things worked out and benefit from playing against far inferior defenses.

Go ahead, that's never been a requirement.

Kempt doesn't make mistakes. That is huge. He isn't setting the world on fire with his feet but considering how well he played last year I think that you could easily examine play calling and the O line instead of thinking that our problems will be solved at the QB position.

Not if we're staring at only 1 win that late in the season we won't
In that case my "bold" prediction will be right, genius.

If you've got a counterpoint to my assertion that we start 1-5 let's hear it. Or just troll, you be you.

Let’s bench DM next week. He clearly doesn’t have it anymore. Poor OLine play is just an excuse. And why didn’t Lazard catch more balls? Not having eligibility is just an excuse for the weak.

Personnel changes and prep time aren’t excuses and you apparently do not understand the one game sample implications.

We will be underdogs in 5 of our first 6 games. I believe we beat Akron and then upset one of the TCU/WVU/Okie State games

Newell won the starting job, but the staff thought experience should start against Iowa, right? Unless there was some injury I don't know about we should have gone with the lineup that started against SDSU. Losing reps in that first game probably drove that decision. Look how well Rose played. I'd like them to give things a try with the "best" line out there next week.

So we played one lineup all fall supposedly and then switched it up, which would have messed with cohesion. Then we're switching it up for game 3. And for the record JGJ was getting smoked just as much at the C spot.

Things that stick out in my mind about the game:

1. Terrible punting resulting in unearned points.
2. There were two plays where it appeared that there was a first down. One for each side both reversed not in our favor. I believe that led to the Iowa TD.
3. Passes bouncing off the almost chest of our normally reliable receivers.

To me those things were the difference in the game.
