Imo NU should only pay actual costs incurred.

It’s surprising the ADs didn’t get better clarification on such events in the contract.

Looks like the NCAA granted Bethune Cookman the waiver to play a 12th game. The article also says Akron's travel cost will get covered, as well as at least some portion of their game check. But the sticking point was that Nebraska had found housing for the Akron team which allowed them to play Sunday and they said "no thanks". JP specifically said that was the eliminating factor for our game against SD State.

Nebraska would be able to count a win over Bethune-Cookman toward its bowl eligibility because the NCAA allows FBS schools to count one win over an FCS school.

And yet (based on my understanding of Pollard's comments), we couldn't get the NCAA's blessing to play a 12th game with an FCS school?!?!?!

What's the deal with that?

I'd be willing to bet that the contract states the date of the game. In that case they were not obligated to play the game the following day.
Wouldn’t you also bet it states a game being playied though? In that case are they obligated to pay if no game occurred?

You’d think both sides would have sought to have specific language on such an event as weather related cancellation or postponement, including defining reasonable accommodations for an additional night.

If both sides left it to chance, costs incurred seems reasonable imo.

You’re mistaken on two counts. One, Jamie said on the radio that night that right after our game was canceled, that Akron called him and said that they couldn’t find hotel rooms that night.

(Perhaps that would be “acceptable housing”, but that’s not what Jamie said).

Immediately following, in reference to that, Jamie said that the thought of hotel rooms hadn’t even occurred to them in the “brief” discussion with SDSU officials, before they decided to cancel.

Anyway, with a million dollars or so at stake, I suspect that lawyers will get closely involved—on both sides of the equation.

Akron had one opportunity to schedule a game on that date. They agreed to forgo all others and enter into a contract with Nebraska for that date. They fulfilled their part of the bargain and did not have an opportunity to make hay anywhere else that night. Nebraska should man up and do their part.

Was Nebraksa really trying to put them up in dorm rooms?
Knowing what ISU’s dorm situation has been like for ages, I kinda doubt that Nebraska could find dorm space for ten people, let alone a hundred—especially on short notice.

Maybe they offered cots on the floor of the basketball stadium? Sleeping bags?

Where would they have 100 extra furnished rooms? Is enrollment that low for them, or were they taking volunteers for students that left town over the weekend?

Yeah, they would spend half of the night getting players, coaches and staff situated and even more time to feed them and then expect them to play a game with a 10:30 kick off the next morning. Meanwhile the Fusker players get a full night sleep in their own beds. Sounds like a heck of a deal.

Not just furnished, but recently cleaned...and bedding? Where would they come up with bedding for a hundred? Maybe things have changed, but I had to bring my own pillow, blankets and sheets when I moved into the dorms.

Of course dinosaurs still roamed Elwood Drive then, but who knows?

Huskers are saying they are not going to pay Akron for the cancelled game. And "maybe" will pay travel expenses.

What a bush league move by a delusional program. I hope they get sued so hard.

Neb cancelled the game, end of story. They owe the money. It is just a BS move by dirt bag lawyers to create leverage to negotiate a settlement.
